    Medical Staff Association News The Medical Staff Association held its Service Awards Meeting on Tuesday, June 25, 2013. Dr. Jacques Dubins, Dr. Harold Kimelman, Dr. Ladislav Mesensky, Dr. Emory Burke, Dr. Stanley Wine and Dr. Joe Da Silva were recognized for 40 years of service.

    Dr. Bob Stein, President of the Medical Staff Association, welcomed the medical staff and guests. Thank you to the following speakers:

    Dunbar Russel, Chair of the Hospital Board, offered his remarks, followed by Dr. Tim Rutledge, President and CEO.

    Dr. Everton Gooden, Co-Chair, Foundation Physician Campaign

    Chaplain Kathy McGrath delivered the blessing.

    The evening was dedicated to honour physicians for their years of valued service and contributions. Thank you to those who assisted with the presentations.

    We celebrated 40 years of service with the following physicians:

    Dr. Jacques Dubins Dr. Harold Kimelman Dr. Ladislav Mesensky Dr. Emory Burke Dr. Stanley Wine Dr. Joe Da Silva

    While not in attendance at the meeting, the following physicians were recognized:

    Dr. Gerald Kirsh, Dr. Brian Sheffield and Dr. Richard Hung

    The Dr. Barry Tobe Award is presented annually at the June Quarterly Meeting to a physician who has demonstrated excellence or innovation in patient care qualities exemplified by Dr. Tobe. Applications for this award can be made at any time throughout the year.

    The Dr. Barry Tobe Award was awarded to Dr. Gregor Ip (Department of Anaesthesia)

    Professional Development Award

    Criteria: Exemplified Professional Practice; Leadership in facilitating inter-professional communication and collaboration; Exemplary performance in clinical practice, teaching and mentoring; Contributes significantly to the effective team functioning in their clinical program.

    The Professional Development Award was shared between Marian Weldon, Registered Physiotherapist and Roula Mandas, Social Worker.

    From left: Dr. Bob Stein, Roula Mandas (Recipient) and Malene Lum (Nominator) Roula Mandas graduated with a Masters in Social Work from U of T and has worked within the Specialized Geriatric Service at the Seniors Health Centre for over the past 13 years. She is a valued and veteran member of the Geriatric Day Hospital team assisting in improving processes to provide client-centred and responsive care for the elderly. She also assisted in the development of the Memory clinics and continues to provide compassionate care to families and patients dealing with dementia. She is involved in the Living Well with Parkinsons Program and completed the Allied Team Training for Parkinsons. Roula will also be attending the World Congress on Parkinsons in Montreal.

    The Dr. Peter R. Newman Humanitarian Award The Dr. Peter R. Newman Humanitarian Award is presented to a person at the North York General Hospital in recognition of an exemplary commitment beyond the workplace to the welfare of individuals or the community, at home or abroad. The Dr. Peter R. Newman Humanitarian Award was awarded to Dr. Danny Yeung.
