Welcome to Medical Terminology Interactive (MTI)! This is a rich and engaging study experience designed to augment traditional reading and instruction. MTI is an online platform that houses a variety of quizzes, games, lesson modules, and study tools related to medical terminology. MTI was not designed to be simply a flashy media supplement to your other course materials. The rich content and activities are provided to help improve the engagement and performance of your students, and to help you hold students accountable for their learning. The overall goal of MTI is to improve student engagement and performance in a medical terminology course. MTI was designed to meet the following 3 needs that were identified through numerous customer focus groups and surveys: 1. Many instructors find it challenging to engage their medical terminology students with

traditional course material. We found a strong desire amongst instructors to implement more engaging multimedia course materials with a real-world flavor..

2. Instructors need homework and assessment resources that challenge students to go

beyond mere memorization of medical terms but also to construct terms. 3. Today’s students are used to learning in a multimedia world and need learning materials that reflect this reality. Students are spending a quickly increasing amount of their learning time online and therefore their needs and expectations are evolving at a rapid pace. This Instructor’s Manual is designed to help you understand how to use Medical Terminology Interactive (MTI) and how to integrate it into your course.

Students navigate MTI by using the elevator inside Pearson General hospital. Each floor correlates to a topic area. MTI is organized as most medical terminology textbooks by focusing earlier floors on word-building basics, such as prefixes, suffixes and combining forms and then progressing into body systems.

3) How do instructors register for MTI? Back to FAQs To register at the site you will need to obtain an instructor access code from your Pearson representative.

Password that you set up when you were a first-time user. 5) How do users navigate MTI? Back to FAQs User Set-up – Create your own personal avatar by first entering your name and clicking START. Follow the on-screen instructions as you build your character. You can choose your gender, skin

tone, hair style, hair color, and scrub color.

Lobby – This is your “landing” page that welcomes you to Pearson General Hospital. You may click on the icons at bottom of the page or the on-screen images to which they correlate. The

Elevator – As you mouse over each button, you will notice that the top display changes to indicate which topic you are about to select. By clicking on a number you will move up to the corresponding floor of the hospital.

Hallway – Once you arrive on your chosen floor, you will find yourself in a hallway. The topic/chapter you have chosen will appear on the sign located on the top left of the screen. There are three rooms for you to choose from: Examination, Laboratory, Records. These rooms are represented visually on the bottom menu bar. The clip board and stethoscope represent the Examination Room, the microscope represents the Laboratory, and the file folder represents the Records Room. You

Once you’ve registered for MTI, you can set up a unique course. Setting up your course allows you to use the gradebook function in MTI. All of the games within MTI will report a score to the gradebook. As the instructor, you can tell at a glance how all of you
