The Second International Conference was organized by GTU in collaboration with Parul

Group of Management Institutes at GTU Campus, Chandkheda, Ahmedabad on 23rd

, 24th

and 25

January, 2013.

The conference theme was “Meeting the challenges of a globalised Market: Perspectives of

Corporates, Financial Institutions, Governments, Educational Institutions & Civil societies”.

Highlights of the programme are as under:

Many Directors, faculty members, doctoral students and students of MBA from various foreign

Universities, Indian universities located outside and in Gujarat interested in the theme of

conference actively participated in the conference. More than 100 Paper Presenters, Open

Delegates (National & International), Research Scholars across the country played a part in

making this conference a grand success.

Day 1: Wednesday, 23 January 2013

INAUGURATION

Dr. P.G.K. Murthy, Director, Parul Institute of Management & Research, Vadodara warmly

A prayer was offered as Saraswati Vandana, the Indian Goddess of Knowledge, followed by

floral welcome to all Dignitaries on the dais.

[Lightning of Lamp by Dignitaries]

Dr. Devanshu Patel, Managing Trustee, Parul Arogya Seva Mandal, for the conference

emphasized on current progress of GTU and various initiatives taken by GTU during last 5

Years. He said the famous quote of Hindi “Bhag lo, ya Bhag lo: indicating that there are two

choices for every situation and you have to select the best option”. He mentioned about the

growth of Parul Group of institutes under the umbrella of GTU.

The program was made more interesting by encouraging and motivating speech by Dr. Akshai

Aggarwal, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, GTU, who elaborated regarding evolution of

Globalization since ancient days and regarding solutions pertaining to meet the challenges of

Globalization. He raised questions about correctly estimating the direction, in which the world is

moving today. He said that the conference would enhance our capabilities to know what is

happening and what should be done to overcome the problems faced in the global market.

Dr. M. N. Patel Director GTU, Member and Secretary ACPC, focused on the progress of

GTU and talked about GTU as a Brand. He focused on the importance of the management

education in this globalized world.

Dr. D. C. Anjaria, Director GSFC, Key note speaker & Guest of honor shared his views

about living with globalization which is an existing fact. He also talked about how finance

follows Economics and outlook for globalization as a matter of attitude.

Prof. A. D. V. De S Indraratna, President Sri Lanka Economic Association gave key note

address on Globalization during decades, with special emphasis on money laundering and the

ways it can be dealt with. Further he gave the real practical knowhow of economy with

globalization, its effects on country, its challenges as well as opportunities. He explain the

concept of Good Governance in today’s Indian Scenario – which actually means a country

‘without Corruption’

The Inaugural ended with a Vote of Thanks given by Prof. Vijayanti Tikyani, Parul Institute of

Management & Research, to all the dignitaries, invitees , participants, sponsors, faculty

members, student volunteers and media , for the gracing the event .

PLENARY SESSION I

There were 3 Expert Speakers in this session for sharing their research outcomes in areas of their

specialization. The esteemed experts were:

1. Dr. Samo Bobek, Dean, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Maribor,

Slovenia .

2. Professor. A D V de S Indraratna, University of Colombo and President Sri Lanka

Economic Association. ( Chair Person )

3. Dr. Juergen Schneider , Germany, member of Pan-Pacific Business Association, Nebraska,

USA, and the International Forum of Consulting Science, Zurich, Switzerland .

After a warm welcome to the dignitaries, Dr. Samo Bobek shared his words of wisdom on the

topic “E Business in global Environment”

He elucidated about facts on increasing boom of online

advertisement. He threw light upon online advertising

giants like “Google & Face book” & discussed about the

future of online advertisements.

Dr. Bobek elucidated about business model, its working,

revenue generation potential and its creation and adoption

in global era with new technology.

He shared his experience on 3 perspectives for

development of e business and narrated about CSF-

Critical Success Factors for successful e-business &

strategies for e-business implementation. Some of the

major CSFs for successful e-business suggested by him

He ended his session with observations like: E business

brings innovation but it needs substantial resources &

success is not guaranteed thus CSF should be taken into

consideration.

The session continued with enlightening speech by Dr.

Juergen Schneider, Germany, Member of Pan Pacific

Business Association, Nebraska, and USA

He threw light on the topic “The carrying amount of cash

generating units” with respect to international finance

reporting system

He drew the attention of the audiences by starting with

impairment test, procedure to implement it, followed by

description about cash generating unit, carrying amount of

asset, carrying amount of cash generating unit, its component [Dr. Juergen Schneider]

& consequences.

He grabbed the attention of the audiences by narrating

facts about consistency principle and components of

carrying amount.

Lastly the session was taken over by Emeritus Professor.

elaborated on impact of global recession on Sri Lankan

Economy”

He used data and graphs to show the impact of the

recession on Sri Lanka and he disclosed that due to

globalization tremendous positive effect was seen on the

economy.

He further narrated that recession has an impact on employment

ratios, FDI’s & Inflation.

He depicted the decreasing unemployment ratio of Sri Lanka and lessening of Foreign Direct

Investments (FDI).

Day 2: Thursday, 24 January 2013

TECHNICAL SESSION I

The second day of the event started with a technical session titled “Challenges of globalized

markets for MNCs, Corporate of large corporate conglomerates, large size, medium and small

size companies”. Two eminent personalities Mr. Shashikant Patange, Head HR Linde

Engineering India Pvt. Ltd. and Ms. Deepa Nair, AGM-HR, Piramal Glass chaired this session.

Mr. Shashikant Patange gave presentation on title

“Challenges of globalised markets for MNCs in services sector

“wherein he shared the factors influencing HR practices at

Linde engineering India Pvt. Ltd. He also explained the

evolution of globalization & its relevance in different centuries.

In his presentation he shared his experience regarding

challenges faced by the service industry and its solution in the

Globalization era. It includes style of doing business in

domestic versus international market, Language, staffing the

top level position, talent acquisition, integration of newly

acquired talent, cross cultural integration and so on.

Ms. Deepa Nair presented on the title” Challenges and

Opportunities of globalised markets for large Indian companies

in Manufacturing Sector. She also emphasized on time-space

compression and super territoriality.

Her major discussion for Globalization revolves on Marketing

and Innovation. In her discussion she discussed the challenges

faced by manufacturing sector like foreign indebtedness, foreign

exchange, corruption, e commerce, unstable Government and so

on. She continued by imparting knowledge on major 3

challenges of HR which include attracting and retaining talented

people, improving organization capabilities and building

creditability.

TECHNICAL SESSION II

Title of this technical session was “Corporate Policies and Strategies in the areas of Finance, HR,

Marketing, Production etc., to meet challenges of global markets”. Mr. R. D. Pandya, LNT

Sergeant Ltd., Dr. M. Thiripal Raju, Director, Indian Institute of

Capital Markets, Mumbai, Ms.Vibhuti Bhatt, Director, One

Advertising Ltd, Ahmedabad and Prof. Dr. Ulrich Schäfermeier,

Vice Dean, UAS Bielefeld, Department Business and Health Care

chaired the technical session.

Mr. R. D. Pandya shared his views on the topic “Policies and

Strategies to meet challenges of Global Markets – Case of LNT

“.In his presentation he discussed about Inter –country transfer of

goods and Service, Asset creation in multiple countries,

multinational technology transfer, recent trends in the companies,

increase in investment in multiple countries

Prof. Dr. Ulrich Schafermeir made a presentation on

"Optimization and Controlling of outsourced Processes in an

international BPO Environment". He focused on optimization and

controlling of international BPO.

He also stressed on the most difficult steps in outsourcing

processes in an international BPO environment.

Most difficult steps in outsourcing as per his view:

Reengineering of organization and process,

Staff communication strategy.

He shared his views regarding failure of outsourcing techniques

and reasons for dissatisfaction in organization.

Ms. Vibhuti Bhatt shared her views on the topic “Marketing

Policies and Strategies in Global Environment”.

She with her strong communication skill and presentation skills

discussed about various marketing and communication strategy

stressing upon how it helps in brand building. She also discussed

about consumerism and standardization as the key of success in

global market.

She discussed the case of Himalaya – 360 degree brand

communication. How Himalaya flourished and became

International Brand.

She cited recent examples of various advertising brands for example [Ms. Vibhuti Bhatt]

Zoo Zoo of Vodafone, honey bunny of Airtel, thums up, Lakme.

Dr. M. Thiripal Raju, shared his knowledge on "Raising of Funds

through public issues in Global Environment." He shared the facts

and figure and explained the trends in Global IPO Markets.

He discussed about Iniatial public offereing and challenges faced

by today’s companies.he also shared his views about Foreign

Direct Investment (FDI) and how it can be helpful in this global

economy business world.

He showed the graphical view of global IPOs by stock exchange

for the year 2011 for various International countries. Also shared

The session was on the topic “Impact & challenges of Globalized Market on commercial

Banking, Investment Banking & Exchanges “.

The eminent guests for the session were

1. Dr. V R Narasimhan, CEO, Kotak Mahindra Pension Fund, Mumbai

2. Dr. Rajat Dutta, Executive Director, Motilal Oswal Investment Advisors (P) Ltd., Mumbai

3. Shri D C Anjaria, Director, GSFC, GIFT & foremen Director, Standard Chartered Bank, Citi

bank

The session opened up with an enthusiastic curtain raiser from

honorable “Shri. D C Anjaria, Director, GSFC, GIFT & former

Director, Standard Chartered Bank, Citi bank on the topic

“Impact on and Challenges of globalised markets on MNC

Banks”.

The session began with a fact that investors have changed their

preferences to invest from banks to financial markets. In this

discussion he discussed about the presence of competition

between banks and financial institutes.

Due to the presence of this healthy competition, investors are

confused regarding their decision about the investments in banks

Thus the session had focused on the latest issue of change in

preference of investors while taking decision about investments

This session was followed with an interesting topic by Dr. V R

Narasimhan, CEO, Kotak Mahindra Pension fund, on the topic

“Impact on and Challenges of globalised markets on Commercial

Banks” He elucidated about the importance of BASEL III norms

which assures the investors about the reliability in the minds of the

investors especially international investors.

He introduced the concept of “Counter Cyclical Capital Buffer” &

“Approaches to Risk Management” which should be improved by

understanding the statistical data.

The discussion continued on fair treatment policy and transparency of banking product, foreign

account transaction conversion act(FATCA) and included elaboration on wholesale banking and

techniques to retain corporate client who is far more better than a retail client.

The session started with informative key notes by Mr. Rajat Dutta, Executive Director, Motilal

Oswal Investment Advisors (P) Ltd on the topic “Impact on

and Challenges of globalised markets on Investment Bankers”.

The discussion revolved around the concept of emergence of

BRIC and Economic Global Scene and India imbibing

characteristics of emerging market, enlightening about the

investment banking in INDIA.

He elaborated about India post 2008 , current scenario of India

depicting through graphs about mergers and acquisitions

activities followed by global trends & driving forces for the

mergers and acquisitions deals, break up of mergers and

acquisitions activities in India sector wise and mergers and

acquisitions deals of 2012.

He discussed on the primary markets indicating positive trends which are observed. The

discussion was followed with the presentation of data regarding recent trends in primary markets

via IPO/FPO.

The data was supported with the graphs showing FDI in India & debt markets

To conclude the speech, he said that an average consumer in developing country purchases with

savings of their funds but consumers in developed countries purchase more on credit.

There was a healthy discussion on all the three topics at the end of session. Few questions that

rose were some global banking services, fund transfers cross border mergers and acquisition and

it continued with focus on who are the MNC banks whether all banks providing global services

are MNC?

Day 3: Friday, 25 January 2013

TECHNICAL SESSION 4

Two Expert Speakers in this session for sharing their skillful knowledge in areas of Government

policies like fiscal, monetary, trade, industrial labor etc., in era of

Global Markets were:

Dr. C S Adhikari, Dean (Academic), ITM, Mumbai shared his

views on the topic “India’s Trade Policies in Global Environment “.

He discussed about the trade policies of India and compared it with

global market. Global environmental goals and trade goals can be

reconciled. He focused on the implications of international trade for

the global environment.

Dr. Rasanand Panda, Professor, MICA, Ahemdabad, shared his

expertise knowledge on “Fiscal and Monetary Policies in Global

Environment”.

He talked about monetary policies of India and other countries. He

shared his knowledge on growing fiscal deficit.

Monetary policy uses a variety of tools to control one or both of

these, to influence outcomes like economic growth, inflation,

exchange rates with other currencies and unemployment

PLENARY SESSION 2

Dr. Mumel Damijan , Professor and Vice Dean and Dr.

Pisnik Korda Aleksandra, Assistant Professor, University of

Maribor, Faculty of Economics and Business ,University of

Maribor, Slovenia on “Gender Role Changes And The

Growing Importance Of Cosmetic Products and Services For

Men – A Global Trend Of The 21st Century”

They discussed about new approaches embraced by marketers

in this globalized world. New & rapid technological

developments, greater customer empowerment fragmentation

of traditional media, increased competition, globalization and

growth of emerging markets, environmental stability and

social concerns were the points they have discussed.

Challenges and Opportunities for educational institutions in higher education and Vocational

Education were:

1. Mr. Varun Arya , Director , Aravali Institute of Management , Jodhpur

2. Dr. Wankhede G.G, Professor and Chairperson ,Center for Higher Education ,School of

Social Sciences, Dean ,Social Protection Office ,Tata

Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai

Mr. Varun Arya, Director, Aravali Institute of Management ,

spoke about “Impact, Challenges and Opportunities for

institutions in Management Education in Global Environment ”.

His in-depth speech revolved around the principle of 80 : 20

rule, focusing on education as profession, the practices ,the

strengths, the weaknesses, the remedies, Education as a

business, its impact its influence on the wellbeing of the society.

The session further talked about difference between education

and qualification, applicability of theories in career & prospects

after MBA. The presentation involved discussion about AICTE,

its norms, reports etc [Mr. Varun Arya]

The eminent speaker guided the students regarding Management

challenges in 21st century with the technique managing change.

Thus he concluded his part with an inspirational note.

Higher Education, School of Social Sciences, Dean, Social

Protection Office, Tata Institute of Social Sciences talked about

“Impact, challenges & opportunities for institutes in higher

education in global environment with special focus on India.

He discussed the importance of practical knowledge suggesting

the changes in the structure & functions which can improve the

quality of education imparted.

The session further moved through the lines of impact of cultural social bias on the educational

system and was about the gap which should be covered through the quality education to cater the

needs of the industry. It focused about the international standards, its expectations and the latest

demand.

Dr. Wankhede proceeded with exploring opportunities for the

students & discussing about the developmental programs. The

emphasis was on quality education and research which can prove to

be a factor contributing to the progress of nation and the speaker

suggested of revamping the institutes of higher education. Thus the

enriching speech ended with suggestions to improve the education

system.

VALEDICTORY ADDRESS AND PRIZE, CERTIFICATE

DISTRIBUTION

During the valedictory and prize distribution ceremony Dr. Devanshu Patel,

Managing Trustee of Parul Arogya Seva Mandal highlighted the

point of massive increase in intake of MBA programme by

comparing since 2000 to till date.

So, need of the hour is to impart quality education. He pointed out

Institute of Infrastructure Management and former Director,

Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, Chief Guest of

the day, started his speech with the point,

“I feel delighted with this type of initiative. While talking about globalization, we must focus on

developing local market also so that we can globalize our product and services. We have to bring

together education administrators and faculty members with international participation. It is good

that people come together & debate”.

He was very much impressed by theme, diversity of topic; significant research content &

meaningful & conclusive research paper with have been published in the book by GTU for 2nd

international conference.

While going through the book, his attention was on a paper entitled “impact of recession of Sri-

Lankan economy”. The second most likes research paper was “social networking helps the

youngster to sharpen their personalities more specifically.”The most challenges we are facing

that “how do you satisfy the aspiration of youth for their education. In current scenario, 70 % of

management institutes are not providing meaningful placement.

So does it mean, country has no demand for the management

institutes? If more & more youth dissatisfy about the education

system, so it becomes wastage of natural educational resources.”

He finally ended up with the opportunities available for the

educational system in this globalized world.

Dr. Akshai Aggarwal, Honorable Vice Chancellor, GTU said,

“GTU’s every institute is a Center of knowledge for the society.

None of our institutions should accept mediocrity in any aspect of

its working. We must aim at excellence in our learning systems as

well as in our research work.” He talked about the following

collaborative research projects, in each of which many Colleges are [Dr. Akshai Aggrawal]

participating. (i) GTU has a Kotler’s Incubator on Ayurvedic Medicines, which is mentored by

Kellogg School of Business, USA. (ii) Jointly with Prof. Dr.

Friedrich Augenstein of DHBW Stuttgart and with Dr Ramesh

Shah, two research projects on ‚ Survey on Cooperation

Management’ and on ‘Indo-German Business Activities – DOs and

DON’Ts’ have been taken up by GTU. (iii) Five research projects

in HR, mentored by Professor T.V. Rao of IIM, Ahmedabad and a

few industry professionals.

He wished each and every institute to become “centers of

knowledge”. GTU has faced lot of challenges which we have to

face and answer all questions while not to accept mediocrity.

Lastly Prof Indraratna from Sri Lanka commented on the on the extraordinary hospitality he had

received during the event.

Dr. P.G.K. Murthy concluded the valedictory function with Vote of Thanks to all the

dignitaries, participants, sponsors, faculties and student volunteers for participating and gracing

the event with their presence. He congratulated all the prize winners who won First, Second and

Third prizes for best research papers in each of five categories.

After the enthusiasm of 3 days with such a great ideas, facts, information, resource of knowledge

The International Conference came to an end with the National Anthem. Throughout the

conference the Speakers, Paper presenters, delegates, faculty members and students from

different corners relished the different ideas and the resource of knowledge.
