Upgrade Overview: Cisco recommends that the customer should upgrade the CDS Devices in the following order:

• Bring the server offline • Shutdown the server • Remove power and cables • Remove the 9261-8i MegaRAID adapter from the server • Remove the BBU from the 9261-8i adapter • Replace the BBU on the 9261-8i adapter • Replace the 9261-8i adapter in the server • Replace cables and power • Reboot the server

Upgrade Times for each device: ~30 minutes.

Replacement Preparations • Verify that have received the correct BBU (Cisco Part Number: CDE3-HBA-G2MR-BBU=)

Model: BAT1S1P.

High-Level Summary of the Replacement Steps:

1. Take the server offline from CDSM.

2. Issue the “init 0” command from the console.

3. Disconnect the power cords from the power supplies, remove the power supplies and

disconnect all the cables on the rear panel for physically replacing the 9261-8i MegaRAID

controller.

4. Open the chassis and remove the 9261-8i MegaRAID controller.

5. Remove the BBU from the 9261-8i MegaRAID controller.

6. Install the new BBU on the 9261-8i MegaRAID controller.

7. Replace the 9261-8i MegaRAID controller in the chassis.

8. Replace the SAS cables to the 9261-8i MegaRAID controller, replace the power supplies,

and the power cords

9. Reboot the server. See the section below for the details of each step:

Procedure for removing the 9261-8i MegaRAID controller and replacing the BBU:

1. In the CDSM, select Maintain/Server/Server Offload Enable

2. SSH as root to the device that is targeted for an upgrade. Stop database by issuing the following commands:

a. as root, issue "db_shutdown" b. make sure avsdb process shuts down, "pgrep avsdb" and “netstat –an |grep

9999” should return nothing c. issue the “init 0” command

3. Inspect the server chassis and ensure all connecting cables are labeled, if fibers are in

use for streaming, ensure that TX/RX are marked by color or label. If any cables/fibers are missing label, use temporary label to show near end interface.

4. Power off the server, disconnect the power cords from the power supplies, remove the power supplies and disconnect all the cables on the rear panel.

5. Place the chassis on a workstation and remove the top cover; Note: Make sure you have an ESD strap on and you are properly grounded before proceeding.

6. Unscrew the bracket of the 9261-8i MegaRAID controller card at slot 3 on the CDE220/420, slot 1 on the CDE250/460/470.

7. Disconnect the mini SAS cable attached to the 9261-8i MegaRAID controller. 8. Remove 9261-8i MegaRAID controller from the chassis.

c. Re-install the BBU by connecting the BBU to the controller connector and re-attaching the 3 screws to the rear of the card which were removed in step a above

10. Before re-installing the new MegaRAID controller, make sure that the BBU is installed

onto the card properly as shown in Figure 15. 11. Reinstall the 9261-8i MegaRAID controller into slot 3 for CDE220/420 and slot1 for the

CDE250/460/470 – ensuring it is fully seated into the PCIe slot. 12. Re-attach slot screw to firmly attach 9261-8i MegaRAID controller and check that all slots

screws are tightened. 13. Reattached the mini SAS cable to the 9261-8i MegaRAID controller. 14. Replace the top cover and rack the chassis. 15. Replace the power supplies and reconnect all cables, make sure you verify labels after all

cables and fiber/copper are connected to interfaces. 16. Boot the server.
