I am a conservation architect with a passion for historic buildings, traditional construction and sustainable development. However, I also have a love of good modern architecture, coupled with a determination for creating good, environmentally conscious design. Bringing those sides of my skills together is what makes me happiest.

Our practice has a strong reputation in historic building conservation and sensitive insertions of new build within historic settings. We are lucky to work on some of the countries most prestigious and beautiful buildings. We pride ourselves on quality and an individual service to each client, be they cathedrals or private individuals wanting an extension - as such we cover a wide range of project types within the ecclesiastical or secular range. I personally strive to provide a good service for each and every client on the journey through their building project and aim to help them achieve their goals and aspirations. In each case, my enjoyment stems from achieving good teamwork from all parties which when developed to the best effect brings the most satisfying results for all concerned and the best possible outcome for the building.

Professional Experience:1997-present: St. Ann’s Gate Architects LLP, St.Ann’s Gate, The Close, Salisbury

(pre-2009 was Michael Drury Architects)

Position: architect and partnerI have worked at the practice from leaving college following the completion of my diploma course through to taking part 3 exams. She is a great listener who works very hard to understand her clients’ personal requirements, but most critically adds in her own limitless flair and highly original thought - the resulting plans deliver the needs of the client plus features and design elements which the client never thought possible. My interests in architecture have always been the elements of specificity and traditional building construction. I believe that vernacular, traditional and historic buildings give beauty and relevance to cultural identity, emphasising the diversity and variety in our world. With the influence of globalisation and international communications creating a rapidly shrinking planet the conservation of our traditions, heritage and past is ever more valuable. Academic studies have always pursued this thinking: The post-graduate dissertation was on the relevance of Historic Building Conservation within the changing nature of the building industry and how it relates to sustainable development; the Diploma Major Study was an investigation into the process of standardisation and its effect on the built environment including the loss of certain unquantifiable elements such as character, individuality, specificity and ‘spirit of place’; and the Third Year Dissertation was on Hassan Fathy, looking at the concept of Regionalism with respect to his buildings and its suitability to developing countries as they seek an appropriate technology.
