I am a:

real teachers—real classes– in real time!

Melissa Black Bio….

Melissa Black studied clarinet and Music Education at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and Primary Classroom Teaching at the Australian Catholic University before entering a career as a Primary Years Music specialist.

After working in state and Catholic schools in Sydney, Melissa moved to Queensland as a recognised proficient music specialist with extensive experience directing young voices and beginning concert bands. In Queensland, Melissa continued Kodály levels and was awarded the Australian Kodaly Certificate in 2017.

Alongside her work in the Junior School at Somerset College, Melissa can be found directing the Poco Voce ensemble at the Queensland Show Choir, performing with the Gold Coast Philharmonic, or representing KMEIA QLD as branch secretary.

Melissa inspires her students through enthusiastic teaching and exciting learning experiences to facilitate inquiry in children of all ages. Through a carefully sequenced developmental Kodaly program, students are given solid foundations for future music education.

1. The college is accessed via the Wyangan Gate entrance (34 on map). 2. Take your first right when entering, down “Bryce Lindores Way”. From here, limited parking is available at the Pool Carpark (21b) and further at the Pool Cark park (26).

The Open Classroom will be conducted in the Junior School Music Room (The Rowe Building – 18 on map).

There will be signage around to help you find my room. Directions from the Ray Carpark are:

- Look for the Somerset Spartans Gym and Basketball courts. Cross these and make your way up the stairs. - Keep heading in the same direction and cross the courtyard, past the Knowledge and Information Precinct and student toilets - Head down the stairs to the Rowe building, and look for the xylophones!
