Cuban Oz (Latin Jazz / Cuban Jazz / Vocal Jazz) Band 6pm – 9pmCubanOz is a collective of Australian and International latin/jazz musicians paying homage to traditional Cuban music and playing at BJC as part of their debut national tour. Special guest from Cuba - Lazaro Pompa - will transport you to a Cuba of yesteryears with his exquisite trumpet playing and vocals.  CubanOz will pay tribute to artists such as Buena Vista Social club and also showcase original compositions from the collective members.

Liam Burrows(Standards / Vocal Jazz) Band 7.30pm – 10pmAt 23, award-winning Liam Burrows has already headlined hundreds of shows both here and overseas. He has appeared on many TV programmes and cruise ships and was one of only 11 Semi-Finalists world-wide in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition. Liam has been described by James Morrison as a “great ambassador for Jazz”. This is his fourth BJC appearance.

Open 7.30pm – 10pmThe music of Weather Report was a strong early influence and this aesthetic of emotive-texture-meets-jazz-language remains in PW Farrell’s music, exploring the seam between post-Weather Report fusion and modern Jazz. This harmonically and rhythmically rich landscape features two keyboard players - Cleon Barraclough and Wil Sargisson, Kelsey Giarola using her voice as an instrument and Joe Marchisella providing world class rhythmic nuance.

Band 7.30pm – 10pmFormed in 2013, this Rhythm & Blues outfit has been performing nonstop to audiences throughout South East Queensland. Their authentic, unique blend of 40s and 50s swing Rhythm & Blues draw their influences from artists such as Ruth Brown, Ann Cole and Etta James, performing renditions of music which encapsulates the swingin’ good times that have truly shaped the music industry.

Yas Queen is a celebration of women and jazz from both past and present. The six-piece, all ladies Brisbane band, explores the tunes of some of history’s most influential female composers, musicians and lyricists. Ranging from traditional jazz to modern, the band presents a vibrant and diverse set of music that is woven together with story-telling and humorous stage banter.

Brisbane Big Band – ‘love the sound’ DANCE NIGHT

2018 sees The Swinging Brisbane Big Band enter a new and exciting phase in its 44 year history with some new licks and new tricks. Under the direction of Brad Esbensen the band has progressed over the past few years from a ‘happy-go-lucky’ dance band to a highly-respected jazz band, able to tackle and perform a wide range of favourite and original big band music. Host and Vocalist Alan Western also celebrates his 29th year fronting the band and welcoming the many vocalists who are eager to sing with the BJC’s resident band. Come and find out why everyone ‘loves the sound’ which is such an important part of the Brisbane Jazz Club scene. See ya Sunday!
