Government Affairs Committee Advisory Group

The Government Affairs Committee shall consist of at least 16 members and advises the Board of Directors, establishing overall government affairs policy recommendations, and operates as an oversight Committee on Product Section government affairs policy, with two principal functions: first, to set priorities for the Association staff in terms of level of effort and resource allocation; and second, to mediate differences between the Product Sections where Product Sections may reach different conclusions on an appropriate approach to a government affairs issue. The Marketing, Communications, and Events Committee's mission is to make the association a more effective industry representative by informing target audiences of the many positive things the industry and the Association do that have a beneficial impact on public issues.

The Committee's scope includes internal and external print and electronic communications, marketing, media relations, and meetings and events (including AHRI-specific meetings as well as AHRI s participation in domestic and foreign trade shows). The scope excludes planning for AHR Expos except logistics, messaging, and marketing for AHRI s participation in those shows.

Electrical Standardization Subcommittee

The Committee on Electrical Standardization manages AHRI s participation in matters of electrical safety and in particular in the National Electrical Code (NEC) activities.

AHRI s Committee on Electrical Standardization (CES) reports to the Standards Policy Committee.

The three year cycle to revise the 2002 edition of the NEC has concluded. The 2005 edition of the NEC is now at the printers and will be available for purchase beginning September 15, 2004. During the 2005 code cycle, industry representatives participated in three of the twenty

Every three years, the National Electrical Code is updated and AHRI participated on a number of the NEC NFPA code-marking panels, including: Panels 10, 11, and 17. It is those panels that have a direct bearing on the industry.

In addition to representing the industry, an important function of the CES is to inform members of pertinent changes to the code. The CES also oversees AHRI s maintenance of AHRI Standard 110 Equipment Nameplate Voltages.
