MERALCO TO HOST THE WORLD’S BIGGESTPOWER AND ENERGY INDUSTRY EVENT IN 2020

More than 100 HR Professionals from power utilities of 8 ASEAN countries recently gathered at Taal Vista, Tagaytay for the 5th Annual Meeting of the HAPUA (Heads of ASEAN Power Utilities/Authorities) Working Group No. 5 on Human Resource. Meralco Power Academy, together with the National Grid Corp of the Phils (NGCP), National Power Corp (NPC) and National Transmission Corp (TRANSCO) hosted the 3 day event, highlighted by 18 Paper Presentations from member utilities and discussions on 2016 and 2017 Projects. L&D Partners from Meralco, Sean Pineda, Pauline Domingo and RJ Lagrimas presented papers on Creating a Culture of Innovation, Meralco’s Digital Learning Solutions and Meralco’s Leadership Development Program, respectively. Nancy Gotidoc, Head of People Leadership & Development shared Meralco’s journey on ‘Implementing a Competency Building Program for Technical Professionals’. The delegates were also hosted by Meralco to a sumptuous dinner where they enjoyed the entertainment from Meralco talents: Switch Dance Group, Noel Patalinghog and Vernon de Vera. The culminating activity was an outreach program, a first for HAPUA, held at the Hoyo Elementary School, Silang Cavite where all delegates donated school supplies for each pupil.

Meralco was recently selected to lead the Philippine hosting of the biggest gathering of the global power and energy industry leaders- the Conference of Electric Power Supply Industry (CEPSI) - in 2020. Meralco Power Academy (MPA) will drive and maximize the learning opportunities of CEPSI 2020 by promoting and disseminating knowledge on the various topics and technologies of innovation in power and energy. The bid presentation was led by Mr. Oscar Reyes and other Meralco officers including Ronnie Aperocho, Ramon Segismundo, Agnes Fidelino and Ian Colorina in Bangkok, Thailand during the recent Executive and Council Meeting of the most prestigious electric power related organization, the Association of Electricity Supply Industry of East Asia and the Western Pacific (AESIEAP).

CEPSI 2020 will further position Meralco as the leader in driving collaboration and growth in the Philippines, East Asia and the Pacific energy sector, while improving access and exposure of the local power industry to global standards, suppliers and utilities. It will further strengthen synergy among Meralco, the Department of Energy, the Energy Regulatory Commission and the other industry players.

"In the Philippines, we have implemented a game changing

reform and transformation of our electric power industry. The Philippine government has nearly fully privatized

its entire portfolio of power assets, largely in generation and transmission. We have

implemented the first phase of Retail Competition and Open Access as early as June 2013 and jumpstarted Renewable

Energy generation supported by feed-in tariffs for solar, wind, biomass, and run of river hydro.

Private utilities like MERALCO

have made significant headway in uplifting customer experience

and efficiency in their energy spend, through the introduction

of advanced metering infrastructure, smart meters, prepaid electricity and net

metering for solar generation at the customer level. Innovation,

technology and digital transformation is happening at an accelerated pace. There is so much to share and so much to

learn. It is in this spirit that we in the Philippines, wish to have the privilege of once again inviting all the members of AESIEAP to

our country and offer to host the AESEAP CEO Conference in

2019 and CEPSI in 2020."
