Desiree Briceno- Desiree came to my class and had to overcome obstacles in and out of class-room. But she never quit and passed her GED exams. She is currently going to school to be-come a medical assistant, and feels her time at adult school helped her reach a goal and gain confidence. She has been able to continue her education and meeting people that have opened doors and provided opportunities for her. Her message to anyone considering adult school is to do it! She encourages people to go to school, keep pushing forward, and never quit.

David Gutierrez- David served our country in the Army before coming to Merced Adult School. He was a hard worker that set the example in regards to what I expect from all my students. Since grad-uating last June, David has been working yard duty at Winton Middle School, and taking classes at Merced College to one day become an addiction counselor. He feels his time in adult school and in college has been easy because for him he feels it's all a matter of desire and focus. He enjoyed his time in adult school and is excited about his future.

Amanda Wortham- Since she finished her diploma courses at Merced Adult School, she's con-tinued her education. Amanda is currently going to an R.O.P. Program were she's learning Medical Office Administration. She started there in August 2016, and has already received a cer-tificate of completion of Medical Terminology for Customer Service. She's had her ups and downs while she was in adult school, but she never quit. It's that attitude that is helping her deal with a busy schedule. She remains upbeat because she knows she has family and friends by her side supporting me every step of the way. She feels nothing is going to stop her from com-pleting her course and getting into the carrier field she's been wanting her whole life. Her advice to students is to put your mind and heart into your studies and never give up. Amanda will offi-cially graduate from Merced Adult School in May, 2017.

Success Stories—GED

17 Merced Adult School www.mas.muhsd.org @mercedadult

Hi my name is Estela and I am a student at Merced Adult School. I have been in the GED class since March 2016, I originally began classes at MAS in April of 2012. I began in the ESL literacy class where I began learning how to read and write in Eng-lish. When I first came to school I was very nervous. I didn’t know any English but I wanted to learn new things. I credit my dad because he was the one who told me about Merced Adult School. My parents always told me that education is the best way to a better job and life. So when I began classes in 2012, not only did I want a better life for myself, but also for my younger siblings and family. With the support of my husband and parents, there is no reason to not continue my education.

I have begun setting goals for myself and as I accomplish them it only makes me want to continue. Merced Adult School has a good staff and the teachers are nice. Students can learn everyday and teachers encourage you to make your dreams come true. My ultimate goal is to go to Merced College.

Estela Reyes Nuñez

Hello my name is Amanda and I’m currently in the GED class, where I’m soon to complete the last test so I can graduate this spring. I have attended Merced Adult School since May 2, 2016. I was previously enrolled in the pre-hse class where I re-mediated and achieved the necessary skills needed to be successful in the GED class. My experience has been rewarding, I have made friends and enjoyed attend-ing. I decided to return to class after not being able to become employed. I would apply for jobs and never get an interview. I look forward to my future and achieving my goal of graduating in May.

I’m now working with Maribel, the transition specialist to enroll for the fall semester at Merced Community College. In the meantime, I plan on taking the Computer & Office Technology class at Merced Adult School this spring and continue that positive path to my education and career goals.
