    The goals of the April 14,2010, meeting are to talk with residents about HUD'sproposals for the future of rental assistance, listen to ideas for maintaining their voices in thefederal policy process, encourage a more engaged and informed group of residents with an Iongoing, meaningful, participatory role in the development of federal policies, and createopportunities for residents to learn about HUD's rental housing programs.In preparation for the meeting, the National Housing Law Project will conduct a series of

    online trainings and telephone briefings to build the knowledge base of residents and prepare forthe convening. Also prior to the meeting, HUD will hold a webcast for residents, to providedetails on the Transforming Rental Assistance initiative.     The Secretary, Deputy Assistant Secretary Galante, Senior Advisor Sard, and I valued the" opportunity to talk with you about plans for the future of rental assistance, listen to your ideas formaintaining resident voices in the federal policy process, and create opportunities for cross-program learning among residents. We are also thankful for the partnership we created with theNational Housing Law Project and the work they did to enable residents to be more engaged andinformed.The convening was an important next step in an ongoing participatory process for

    residents to be a part of the development of HUD programs and policies. We hope that you havealready begun to share your experience and discussions with residents back in your communities,and to collect their feedback. In the coming months you will continue to hear from theDepartment as the details of the TRA initiative and legislation are revised.
