    Harry Lali now adefinite maybe

Last week, Harry spoke to theKamloops Daily News, intimating he wasa possible maybe in the BC NDP leader-ship race. Well, Monday, he upgradedthat, saying he is strongly leaningtoward seeking the leadership

The official statement releasedMonday says: During the past week Italked with many party members andvoters across British Columbia regard-ing the BCNDP leadership nomination.I am heartened by the very positive

response I have received from them.British Columbians are looking for

honesty, strong leadership and a clearvision. Voters are tired of the presentgovernments heavy-handed policiesthat leave far too many BritishColumbians behind. People of thisprovince want the BCNDP to win thenext election.

While British Columbians aredemanding change, they also expect thenext BCNDP leader to listen to theirconcerns and provide accountabilityand strong leadership that speaks totheir values and their priorities. I am upto that challenge.

I have been discussing running forleader of BCNDP with my family, withmy constituents, and with British

Columbians across the Province, andthey have been very supportive. WhileI have yet to make a final decision, Iam strongly leaning toward seekingthe leadership of the BCNDP.

    Harry Lali

The state of BC forestsThe most intensive and thorough

report ever produced on the state ofBC's forests provides a summary of ourforest resources and how we're manag-ing them. It provides detailed info on 91indicators of forest sustainability &management, and is the result of a 2-year effort by a team of 30 staff fromseveral natural resource ministries, sup-ported by over 130 contributors andadvisors from many organizations.

The indicators are based on national-ly & internationally accepted standardsand cover topics such as species diver-sity, timber harvest, public involvementand jobs and communities. The reportalso identifies challenges presented bythe mountain pine beetle and the globalrecession.

Examples of the report's findings:The area of protected forests over

140 years old has increased by almost 1million hectares since 2002 and nowtotals 4.5 million hectares, a 250%increase since 1991.

There are about 11 billion cubicmetres of timber in BC forests, approx.1/2 of which will never be harvested.

    Reforestation success rates are veryhigh.

There are about 70 million user-days of recreation in BC's forests eachyear.

The 2010 report is the 3rd edition ofthe State of BC Forests and the 1st tocover 91 indicators in 24 topic areas. Itfollows the initial 2004 report (24 indi-cators in six topic areas), and the secondedition in 2006 (48 indicators in 12 topicareas).

The State of British Columbia'sForests is available online at:www.for.gov.bc.ca/hfp/sof/

Disobedience, in the eyes of anyone who has read history, is man's originalvirtue. It is through disobedience and rebellion that progress has been made.

    Oscar Wilde

Changing Times I have five siblings, three sisters and two brothers. One night I waschatting with my mom about how she had changed as a mother from the first childto the last. She told me she had mellowed a lot over the years: "When your old-est sister coughed or sneezed, I called the ambulance. When your youngest broth-er swallowed a dime, I just told him it was coming out of his allowance."
