The Board continues to work on making our

organization accomplish its mission which is

by advocating for its members ” .

As a part of this we are including a DTR in

our board meetings this year –Jamie Unkle, DTR has already brought some new view

points and good ideas to the Board.

We will also be working on making some of the administrative systems work better – one

NEW TAX CUT FOR SMALL

BUSINESSES

Beginning immediately, with the current tax season, a business

owner can exclude 50 percent of Ohio net business income from the adjusted gross

income they report on their Ohio personal income

tax return. If the business has multiple owners, each is eligible to claim the deduction.

This exclusion is available on up to $250,000,

meaning the deduction is capped at $125,000 for

each investor or owner. Owners of (and investors in) Ohio businesses structured as pass-through

entities (PTEs) qualify for this new tax cut. PTEs are not taxed as a business by the

federal or state government. Instead those owners/investors

receiving income from the business

pay federal and state personal income taxes on that income.

PTEs include: sole proprietorships,

partnerships, Subchapter S

corporations ( S-corps ) and Limited

Liability Companies ( LLCs ) .

Mariam Jackobs,

50 Year Ohio AND

Member, recent

past GCDA

Executive

Committee Chair

Mariam has been doing marathons for 16 years! Her current goal that she is closing in on, is to finish doing a marathon in all 50 states! Some of her group: The Mason

Mighty Walkers will be traveling to Albuquerque to do that marathon with her.

“ O ur motto is: “ We walk all seasons, for all reasons, because we can! ” Sometimes I can

hardly believe how my life has evolved through the years. I thank God each day for the

ability to “ be ” and to “ do ” .

Miriam retired from long term care consulting and private practice just

five years ago as it “interrupted” her

ability to travel freely and to do many other things.

She continues to teach Nutrition and Personal Wellness at Wilmington College-Blue Ash branch, as needed and

really enjoys this. She also does an “Ask the Dietitian” event twice a week at the Mason Community Center.

Congrats to Local “ 50 Year Member ”

G C D A N E W S L E T T E R

The Ohio Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recently recognized their new “50 year members”.

Mariam Jackobs from Mason Ohio, was one to hit her 50 year mark! I asked Mariam to provide us with some wisdom and tips!

TIPS FOR OTHER DIETITIANS

“Before retiring I really took nutrition and physical fitness to a new level in my own personal

life. You can eat right but we all need to exercise right or at least make an active lifestyle a

habit that is done daily!!!”

“ I preach to the choir! ”

“Consider walking races rather than running – there is less chance of damage to your feet,

ankles, knees and hips that way. It is an easy sport to get into, your only real piece of

“equipment” is a pair of shoes – preferably a pair of running shoes with a low heel that makes for easy walking. (Do not buy ‘walking shoes’ as they are often stiffer than running

shoes and heavier.) Also join a walking group; most running shoe stores have running and

walking groups and of course I have the Mason Mighty Walkers. Pick a group that you do not have to travel far to join and soon you will be enjoying the beauty of walking!!”

“I will walk a

marathon in

Oregon over Labor

Day – that is state

no. 49 and then

on October 20 in

Albuquerque, New

Mexico, I will finish

my 50th state!“

Antarctica was my last continent to do a marathon on. I had done Zimbabwe, Africa the year

before. This a picture of my husband and I on top of “Jock” our elephant for a day at a rescue

park for abandoned animals!
