This year, we have organized various activities, such as the Religious Week, to cultivate in the little Raimondians with a positive attitude towards life, gratitude for what they have and a readiness to share and spread their love to the needy. Such practical help is a good example of sharing love with others. These small acts have a great impact on the less privileged and I am sure it can light up and warm the hearts of the recipients. Dear Parents and Raimondians,

Be strong and steadfast! Do not fear nor be dismayed, for the LORD, your God, is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1: 9

It has been an amazingly busy but industrious year for teachers and students. The celebrations of our 60th anniversary have called and united friends of Raimondi College from all over the world, to celebrate, to reminisce and to give thanks to our predecessors. The celebrations have also served to call upon the young Raimondians to uphold the Raimondi heritage and stride with confidence in writing and engraving the school history. I believe Raimondians have lived up to the school’s reputation, as we see them spread their wings and fly beyond boundaries in different competitions academically, physically and artistically this year.

Here, I would like to highlight some of the students’ achievements:

The success of students cannot be achieved without students’ hardwork, parents’ support, and teachers’ mentorship. I would like to thank teachers, parents, and students for their efforts in supporting the school so that we can provide quality Catholic education to the young minds that we are all proud of. At RCPS, we treat our students as individuals with their own unique strengths, interests and potential. As educators, our duty is to unlock the full potential of every student by helping them achieve academic excellence and experience the joy of learning while feeling challenged, valued and successful. Throughout the six years of their primary education, Raimondians are encouraged to be intellectually curious, to think independently and develop active learning habits. When they leave the school, they are confident and willing to tackle the unexpected and the unknown.

We continue to uphold the school’s core values of love, unity, and perseverance, and we set high standards and expectations of our pupils to help them pursue and achieve their very best. In order to foster a sense of service and responsibility in the students, the Discipline and Counselling Group organised a big brother / sister programme called ‘Fly With Me’. Primary 5 and 6 students were invited to help take care of Primary 1 students before the morning assembly. Through helping the younger ones, the higher form students learned how to help the youngsters. This experience developed the older students’love and care. It was also an opportunity for the big brothers / sisters to practise their leadership skill. With the help of the big brothers, Primary 1 students enhanced their self-care abilities. Besides that, the high form and lower form students have developed a good relationship with each other. It helped build up a harmonious school.

During recess, students played board games and did some physical activities in the playground. These mental and physical games provided a chance for students to exercise their body and release their stress. When the bell for recess sounded, students looked forward to enjoying these fun activities. Joining these activities provided a chance for students to cooperate and communicate with each other. Students could play together with their schoolmates in order to build up their good relationships. Apart from that, they could also learn to obey the game rules and discipline themselves through playing games. It was such a great fun time for the students.

Raimondi College Primary Section has been a member of the Hong Kong Red Cross Junior Unit for 30 years. As a member of the International Red Cross Movement, we are responsible for protecting life and health, serving the community and putting the spirit of humanity into action. Together with Youth Unit 7 and the alumni of Raimondi College, a training programme has been organised for the junior members to develop their leadership skills. They are trained to have good discipline and become responsible citizens in the community. The youth members have a chance to lead the junior members through the training in first aid skills, marching and a series of progressive activities. After the programme, the junior members will join the combine enrollment with the secondary section in the following academic year. This programme helps both the junior and youth members maintain ties among students in the primary and the secondary sections.

The members of the Leadership Training Programme included Primary 5 and 6 students. Through experiencing different activities like marching training, adventure games, sports games etc., students’ self-confidence, leadership skills and team spirit were built up. The most special activity in this programme was learning Floor Curling. It was a novel game for the students. The game required precision, strategies, focus, communication and team work. They enjoyed learning Floor Curling very much. In order to provide an opportunity to the students to practise what they learnt, an Elderly Centre visit was arranged for them. On that day, students needed to teach the elderly how to play Floor Curling. The elderly showed interest in learning the games. They gained a lot of pleasure in the Floor Curling competition. For the students, it was a worthwhile experience. They could practise their leadership skills, communication skills etc. The old ones and young ones enjoyed the activity very much.

Kids On Stage performed for the Hong Kong School Drama Festival on 4th March, 2019. We were nominated by the adjudicators for public performance on 25th May, 2019 at Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre. Our students performed a musical called ‘Rats!’ The musical was about a beautiful village called Hamelin. In Hamelin, the children were the brightest and the people were the happiest. One day, this great community is ruined by a group of invaders – Rats! Led by Mayor Dumfreys, the people of Hamelin intend to get rid of this rodent problem. However, the situation grows completely out of hand. The rats become the masters of the village. In the end, the Pied Piper saves Hamelin from the disaster. This musical featured 4 songs with beautiful harmonies. The result was announced in April. Our students won several awards from this event.

Gifted education has always been an important developmental direction of our school. The school is committed to encouraging students to participate in life-wide learning activities outside the classroom. From January to May, Dr. Kwan Chi Pong Jack, our alumnus, was invited to hold parent-child science workshops for students in Primary 2 to 3 and a “Lab of Ripples” Science Workshop for Primary 4-6 students. During the workshop, with the enthusiastic help of the “Big Brothers” from the secondary section, our students were highly focused when listening to instructions, carried out each step of the experiment with immense care and completed it with great satisfaction. It is hoped that through their hands-on experience, students’ interest in science is nurtured, their scientific thinking and problem-solving skills are enhanced and their ability to make informed judgements is strengthened. Equipped with these abilities, they will become self-directed learners of science.

I am delighted to join the big family of Raimondi College Primary Section. Just like any students, I have experienced many feelings at the start of the new school year. I feel excited and have great anticipation for the spark of curiosity in the young Raimondians. A couple of months of school have gone by and I am pleased to see the students have gained much confidence in speaking English both inside and outside of classrooms. I am determined to put in my best and unleash the full potential of the Raimondians! Ms Y. H. Tam

Without a doubt, teaching is a challenging but rewarding profession. Like all other professions, teachers embark upon a journey of life-long learning, as we endeavour to

engage our students in learning. As a teacher, I have

come to appreciate how important it is to learn from my students. From their

Our school events have been held successfully and smoothly by virtue of the Raimondi College Primary Section Parent-Teacher Association (RCPSPTA) members and parent volunteers’ help and support. We appreciate and value parents’ devotion to the events. RCPSPTA has actively organized various kinds of activities such as a parent-child trip, parent talks, parent workshops, Dress Casual Day, etc. These activities have strengthened the relationship between teachers and parents. All the activities were successfully held and have won unanimous praise. In addition,RCPSPTA has also shown their support in other ways, such as sponsoring Christmas gifts for students and gifts for the Talent Quest Prize-giving Ceremony. The Parent-Teacher Association is really an important bridge between the school and the parents; it allows parents to establish a closer relationship with the school. Parent volunteers are our vital resource to establish a pleasant and healthy study environment for students. Parents have enthusiastically contributed their time and lent their hands to help everything run smoothly in different school events, such as Open Day, Lunch Parent Volunteers, Mid-Autumn Festival – The Reunion, Caritas Bazaar, School Picnic, Chinese Cultural Day, School Visit, Sports Day, etc. We are so thankful to them, as all parent volunteers help make students’ school life more meaningful and fruitful. We always hope to work in close partnership with parents.

RCPSPTA believes reading is one of the most important ways to obtain and accumulate knowledge. To help students make good friends with different kinds of books and enjoy reading, RCPSPTA organizes a reading workshop every year. RCPSPA organized a parent-child reading workshop for parents on 13th April, 2019. They invited 「肥哥哥」, Mr Conrad Wong to share how to choose suitable books for children to help them become fond of reading. The workshop was unprecedentedly successful. Mr Conrad Wong not only gave a vivid and interesting presentation but also provided fruitful content to parents. Parents gave positive feedback to both the speaker and RCPSPTA.
