The percentage of revenue that the district will utilize for the 2008-2009 budget is as follows:

The budget for the 2008-2009 school year refl ects the continued implementation of the goals that have been set by the Board of Education for the school district. The budget provides for a strong core curriculum and the continued offering of supplemental programs that extend learning beyond the school day. The 2008-2009 school budget also provides for the continued implementation of the districts three-year technology plan and two-year operational plan. With new, innovative technology rolling out at a rapid pace the district continues to budget for and provide the latest technological tools to our children to help them achieve their goals and receive the education that they deserve. The district understands that technology plays an important role in education; and as such the district is investing in technology today so that society will benefi t from the knowledge students have obtained. Such initiatives are the Laptop Program and IPOD Program at the McGinnis School, the PDA Program at the Shull School and the Bi-Lingual IPOD Program at the high school, which provides students with a learning environment that allows them to progress with their class, while learning English. Programs such as these help Perth Amboy to consistently be one of the top districts in Middlesex County.

In conjunction with the district’s operational plan, the proposed budget will continue to provide computers in every classroom, computer labs in every school, wireless internet access, an updated media retrieval system and quality educators to implement these plans.

Another district priority is the continued implementation of early childhood learning. The district continues to offer a pre-school program for all resident 3 and 4-year old children and the 2008-2009 budget refl ects the continuation of this program as well as the kindergarten program. Construction of the 2nd Early Childhood Center is underway, with an anticipated opening date of January 2009. The completion of this school will, again, put Perth Amboy at the forefront of Early Childhood Education in Middlesex County.

In closing, the 2008-2009 school budget provides for the implementation of all district initiatives and programs and provides our children with the resources necessary to be successful now and in their futures.
