Message from the Vice Chancellor

Assam Don Bosco University, the first State University to be established in the private sec-tor in Assam (2008), is envisioned to be a center of excellence in the best traditions of Don Bosco’s system of education, a brand recognized all over the world. It ensures that its students are well-rounded, dependable professional with competence as their hall-mark and a spirit of self-reliance and social commitment as their way of life.

North East India, with its mosaic of cultures and tribes and languages, is perhaps, the ideal location for the training of global citizens and agents of social change. The challenges posed by the daily task of navigating through this multifaceted, multi-lingual and multi culture society and the consistent emphasis placed by the university of excellence and human formation fuse to form a unique blend, enabling our students to shoulder any task anywhere, and to creatively adapt their knowledge and expertise to the demands of the workplace.

The Department of Social Work, established in 2011, has grown to be the anchor in the estension and outreach activities of the University. I have no hesitation in affirming most emphatically that our Social Work graduates embody the ideals enshrined in the vision of the University. Assam Don Bosco UniversityAssam Don Bosco University, an initiative of the Don Bosco Society, was established as the first State University of Assam in the private sector by the Assam Don Bosco University Act (Act No. 9 of 2009 by the Legislature of the State of Assam). It is recognized by the UGC under section 2 (f) of the UGC Act [Vide F. No. 8-13/2009 (CPP-I)]. Don Bosco Society has been rendering committed service in the field of education for over a century and its activities spread across 132 countries. Though the society has 15 universities worldwide, Assam Don Bosco University is the first University in India. The Government of India has recognized the Don Bosco Society as the largest non-governmental organization for providing technical education in the country.

Envisioned as the centre for culture, knowledge, research and intellectual ferment, this university focuses its teaching, research and consul-tancy on three core areas: technology sector, service sector and social sector. These areas have been chosen because they focus on cutting-edge technology at the service of contemporary knowledge-society and knowledge-economy. This ensures that our graduates are innova-tive, employable and are equipped with the necessary skills to impact and transform the society.

The Department of Social Work came to be an integral part of Assam Don Bosco University in 2011. The four-semester postgraduate programme in Social Work leading to the degree of Master of Social Work (MSW) aims at training students to plan and execute extensive range of social services and social welfare activities. With an innovative blend of theory, field work and research, it is designed to provide the students with a variety of aptitude and skills to enable them to be active practitioners in the field: to set up and manage organizations of their own, or to find employment with various national and international agencies.

In pursuance of these goals, our graduates are provided with adequate exposure to theoretical foundations of social work, advanced prac-tice skills for all levels of intervention, and requisite professional attitudinal formation.
