4-H Barbecue News!
4-H Barbecue and Live Auction
New for 2016 - the 4-H Fund Raising Committee will be conducting a Live Auction at the Miami County 4-H Barbecue! Miami County 4-H Clubs are asked to please donate an item(s) to the auc-tion. Looking for ideas? Consider donating, themed gift baskets, sports tickets, gift certificates, hand-crafted items, home and garden supplies, baked goods, etc. Due to the large number of aller-gies, if donating a baked good, please include the ingredients on a card with the food. Auction items may be dropped off 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the Poultry Barn (formerly the Jr. Fair Building) the day of the Barbecue. The auction will begin at 7:00 p.m.
All clubs are required to participate at the barbecue, but not all members must be present. Organi-zational Advisors received details concerning the number of individuals needed at each station and additional information regarding the amount of beverages needed in their fundraiser packet mailed out last month. Beverages should be taken to your Chairperson by Thursday, July 21, or dropped off at the Poultry Barn, located at the south end of the Miami County Fairgrounds, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, July 21. Please remember to write the club name on the side of the beverage box.
Proceeds from the annual Miami County 4-H Barbecue combined with 4-H member assessment fees fund: the purchase of project ribbons, rosettes, trophies, county medals, final year member awards and plaques, part of the Miami County Volunteer Banquet awards and decorations, older youth trips (i.e. Sea Camp), volunteer education (i.e. State Volunteer Conference attendees), 4-H promotional activities, Cloverbud and Jr. Camp camper scholarships, Cloverbud activities, School program materials, scholarships, club auditing, Food and Fashion Board activities, Project Pride Day drapes and judges’ meals, and 4-H newsletter postage.
This is the main fundraiser conducted by the Miami County 4-H program, and as you can see, it ben-efits our volunteers as well as our youngest to our oldest 4-H members. Please encourage non 4-H family and friends to come out and support this annual event.
Pull Tab Community Service
We would like our 4-H families to once again join us in saving pull tabs for our county com-munity service activity. Aluminum pull tabs can be found on various beverages, soup, pet food, and other canned items. Please begin saving your tabs today and turn them in at the Miami County 4-H Barbecue on Saturday, July 23. The tabs will be donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Important Reminder

Cloverbuds
Cloverbud Show-N-Tell and
Graduation
Wednesday, August 17
Duke Lundgard Building
The Cloverbud 4-H “Show-N-Tell” program is a non-competitive demonstration activity. Members share or ‘show and tell’ what they learned during the year in a 2-3 mi-nute talk with an ‘interviewer.’ Clo-verbuds may use a scrapbook, pho-to album, poster, or activity from the Cloverbud curriculum as part of their demonstration. Youth may par-ticipate as individuals or in teams. Cloverbud “Show-N-Tell” teams may consist of 2-4 members. (Team members must talk about the same topic.)
Participants must complete the pre-registration form in this newsletter and return it by Monday, August 1st. Topics are to be related only to information learned during Clover-
bud Activities.
Cloverbud Graduation will take place immediately following Clover-bud “Show-N-Tell.”

honeybees benefit agriculture.

Cloverbud Fair
Booth Set Up
August 10, 2016
Exhibits for the Cloverbud Booth may be dropped off Wednesday, August 10th from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm in the Duke Lundgard Building.
Members may display projects or posters of 4-H Cloverbud activities (camp, meetings, community ser-vice, etc.). All items must be accom-panied by 5” x 7” cards listing mem-bers’ names and clubs.
Due to limited space, Cloverbud groups may submit a full size club
poster, individual projects, or half size individual posters.
2016 Commodity Carnival
CME Group and the National 4-H Council partnered to create the Commodity Carnival, a fun learning activity for youth to experience managing the business risks associated with producing and bringing livestock to market. The game aims to build greater literacy in agricultural science and economics at state and county fairs.
The Commodity Carnival consists of three activities that guide participants through the process of producing and selling livestock: grow your livestock, sell your livestock and win a ribbon. This year, participants will grow and sell a hog.
The Commodity Carnival will appear at nearly 120 state and county fairs throughout the Midwest during the sum-
mer and fall of 2016. Miami County was one of 10 counties selected to participate in this year’s event. The activity
will be offered on three days during the Miami County Fair. One day will be “Kids Day”, 10 am—1 pm, Monday,
August 15.
A grant is being offered to each county 4-H program that takes part in this event. Two teens are needed to help
conduct the activities. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Demetria at 440-3943.
Please remember to pick up fair vouchers on Satur-day, August 13th in the Duke Lundgard Building at the table near the stage. Vouchers must be picked up by the Organizational Advisor, or a designated Advisor for your club. Vouchers will be available for pickup from 9am-4pm on Saturday, except during the Awards Ceremony. $1.00 vouchers are given to each completed project on display by Thursday, August 11th at 5:00 pm. Projects must be labeled clearly to receive a voucher.

Fair Booth Information
For those clubs wanting to have a booth in the Duke Lundgard Building during fair, registration forms are available in the Project Pride Day Booklet and are due no later than July 13th. For clubs who will be exhibiting their non-livestock projects in the Miscellaneous Booth - you must also complete the fair booth request form to let Demetria know how many projects you will be bringing. All projects, including miscellaneous booth, must be in place by 5 pm on Thursday, August 11th. (Building will be closed for judging at 5 pm.) Note: Each project displayed must be legibly marked with the member’s name to receive your Jr. Fair Voucher. Remember, this year’s theme is “4-H: So Much More…” For more information on booth size and what can be used to hang your decorations, please refer to the Project Pride Day/Fair Booklet. If you have any questions, please contact the Exten-sion Office at 440-3945.
Ohio Ag is Cool!
Ag is Cool has two main components. The first is a Creative Expression Contest which is administered by ODA. The second is offered at the Ohio State Fair each year by ODA, OFBF and Ohio’s Commodity Groups. The objective of the program is to teach chil-dren about Ohio agriculture through hands-on activi-ties as they travel around the fairgrounds to barns and ag displays. For more information including scholar-ship info visit http://www.agri.ohio.gov/agiscool/.
Fair Pass Information
For 4-H advisors and 4-H club members 9 years and older (Fair rules state 8 year olds are admitted free, therefore your 8 year old 4-Hers will not be receiving a fair pass.), fair passes will be handed out the week of August 1st – cost for fair passes will be $15.00 for advisors; $2.00 for 4-H mem-bers (picked up by one Advisor or designated
adult representative per Club).
Passes will be distributed only to those clubs that participate in and contribute to the 4-H Barbeque on July 23rd and for all that are in good standing with their club/organization. The Organizational Ad-visor (or a designated club advisor) is responsible for picking up the passes for the whole club at the Fairgrounds and distributing them to club members and advisors. Replacements must be purchased - so be careful with those passes!
Note: Any volunteers or members added after club enrollment deadline (the last Friday in March) are not eligible for discounted passes.
4-H Mail-In Shooting Sports Match
It’s time to start preparing for the Classic Clovers 4-H Club Mail-In Shooting Sports Match. Entries and tar-gets for the 4-H Shooting Sports Match, must be post-marked by August 31, 2016. No huge fees, travel or lodging expenses. The rules are rather simple and will rely upon the guidance of leaders and advisors to use honor system. Each 4-H club/s would host their own shoot then mail the targets and entry forms to Classic Clovers 4-H club. For divisions and rules, please con-tact the Extension Office at 440-3945.
Award Forms Due July 15th
Ten Year and Final Year Award forms were mailed to individuals last month. If you did not receive a form and feel you qualify for one of these awards, please contact the Extension Office. County Award forms were includ-ed in the last newsletter. Please consider nominating a young person, 14 years old or older (as of Jan. 1), for one of these honors. Remember they do not have to be
a blue ribbon winner, but a blue ribbon kid to qualify.
