Communication Content
Human machine interfacing in industrial applications and simple networking
In machine building, in commercial building or in industrial processes the level of networking is constamtly increasing. The diagnostics and maintenance should increasingly be able to be carried out from any place.
Application areas:
• Factory automation: Communication of the automation components of a machine networking of machines com-munication with the process control level
• Power distribution / generation: Monitoring tasks of small hydro electric power plants, wind power plants and solar power plants
• Transportation systems• Building automation
Constant communication offers flexibility and cost reduction with engineering, installation and maintenance.
This helps to save time and money and in addition, it increases the productivity of the plant. • Ethernet – via Industrial Ethernet powerful communication
networks of considerable size can be constructed. Cost-effective controlling, supervising and collecting of data for three-dimensional applications. And the whole also by Wireless connection.
• Web-based communication – site-independent, worldwide access to the automation level by the use of a web server, e-mail communication and FTP communication. Web inte-gration provides numerous clear advantages: The use of browsers as a uniform user interface, the site-independent access to information from any number of clients, and the reduced expenditure for the installation and maintenance of the client software. And that pays off – in particular for test, commissioning, diagnosis and maintenance.
• Communication with the field-level over AS Interface – cost-efficient, simple and secure.

Micro Automation Set 7 Safety-integrated switching in the AS-Interface network
Safe switching using the AS-Interface Safety Monitor and evaluation in a SIMATIC S7-200 via the AS-Interface master
• The Safety Monitor permits low-cost, safe switching with the possibility to use the S7-200 Micro PLC connected to the AS-Interface bus. This means that low level actuators and sensors in the field can be simply networked in an ideal fashion, and can also be effectively shut down in time-critical, dangerous situations.
• The safety circuit is directly integrated into the AS-Interface network without added wiring. This sets it apart from com-parable applications – where special wiring is required for emergency stop and limit switches.
• The safety-related functions can be processed together with standard functions, all on one bus.

Micro Automation Set 14 11
Application areas
The Micro Automation Set is particularly suitable for use in cost-effective archiving and communication tasks with low engineering overhead. Any SIMATIC S7 controllers or SIMATIC WinAC can be used as communication partners. The example configuration shown in this Micro Automation Set is used in numerous applications. The configuration is particularly useful if:
• A lot of data have to be transported• Quick communication is required• Existing Ethernet networks are to be expanded with automation technology
(e.g. facility management)• Programmable logic controls are to be networked over a large area• The automation network is linked to the office network without causing an
unnecessary load of the office communication sector• An expandable communication system with open protocol is to exist.
