C 1000SCondenser Microphone

DescriptionThe AKG Model C 1000 S gradient condenser microphone

uses a low noise pre-polarized backplate (electret) and isideal for a variety of recording and sound reinforcementapplications. Its polar pattern can be quickly converted fromcardioid to hypercardioid by placing an acoustical converterover the end of the microphone capsule; this has virtually noeffect on the on-axis response of the microphone. The on-axis response of the C 1000 S has a gentle (-6 db/octave)roll-off below 200 Hz which has been tailored for the normalclose-in use of cardioid and hypercardioid microphones instudio recording and sound reinforcement applications. Themicrophone may thus be used in close-in application with noneed for further equalization. The C 1000 S may be poweredby a 9-volt battery or by phantom powering over a rangefrom 9 to 52 Vdc. The included PPC 1000 Polar PatternConverter allows quick changeover from cardioid tohypercardioid. A silent on/off switch is recessed to preventinadvertent shut-off. The included Presence Boost Adapterpiece PB 1000 creates an emphasis of the higher frequenciesfrom 5 to 9 kHz by about 3 to 5 dB, which not only improvesthe transmission of sibilances but may be also advantageouswhen recording instruments requiring greater high frequencycontent in their audio spectrum.

sE X1R – Technical InformationThe sE X1R is a superb high performance ribbon mic. This state of the art ribbon element enclosed by top grade Neodymium magnets boasts some of the latest technology from sE’s ribbon range. We have combined our traditional Ribbon technology with some of the mechanical elements of our patented Voodoo mic HF extension technology to bring you a classic sounding ribbon mic with a gentle HF lift... not the full frequency response performance of the Voodoo’s and the widely acclaimed RNR1, but a hybrid of old and new which gives you all the natural beauty of the ribbon sound, but with more versatility and ease of use than the majority of ribbons on today’s market.

The sE X1R also draws on the chassis and design elements of the hugely successful X1, to bring you exceptional performance, and the hand-crafted capsule quality you expect from all sE mics, but at a fraction of the cost of other boutique brands. This really is the perfect Ribbon mic for the !rst time project studio buyer, or a great addition of new character to your mic collection.

SE Electronics Mic Techniques and Applications

Ribbon Microphones

Ribbon microphones have a natural figure-of-eight polar response, so where a more controlled directivity is required, we recommend using an sE Reflexion FilterTM behind the microphone. Their unique character enhances the interesting mid-range resonances in an instrument while smoothing out the highs, making them ideal for sweetening bowed strings or as drum overheads where you need to prevent the cymbals from becoming too splashy. They are also used by many leading engineers for recording guitar amplifiers as they retain the bite and character of the sound, while filtering out some of the less desirable high-end harmonics. Passive ribbon models have a naturally low output and so should be used in conjunction with a good quality, low noise preamplifier. Though other manufacturers may provide suggested lists of instruments for use with their ribbon models, we would recommend you try our ribbon models on as many sources you can (other than perhaps close-mic’ed drums), as they often reveal a surprising and musically valid alternative to the more obvious microphone choices. Use a pop shield if using them to record vocals and shield the rear of the mic using a Reflexion Filter or other suitable acoustic absorber. !

In developing the new models, we havecarefully maintained the sonic characterand traditional shape of the C 414 series, while integrating new features like a vast-ly improved capsule shock mount, newswitching functions and more moderndesign – into the classic shape of the pre-vious models.

Instantly recognizable as a C 414, the newmodels will be familiar to anyone who hasused and heard the famous predeces-sors.

The new XLS and XL II models were de-veloped to give professional users im-proved functionality they need: controlswitches with status LED for selecting thepolar pattern, pre-attenuation pad andbass cut/roll-off. An overload indicatorfunction, status indicators and positioningaid have been integrated into the micro-phone too. An optional remote controldevice to switch all these functions at themixer will be available by the end of 2004.
