• Who am I and what do I know about immunisation?

What’s the problem?

Measles is a disease caused by a virus. The infection is spread through the air through droplets of saliva.

Whats the problem?

Mumps is a viral infection of the parotid salivary glands. It is spread in saliva and in minute airborne droplets

Rubella, commonly known as German measles, is a disease caused by Rubellavirus. It is passed on through droplets in the air from the coughs and sneezes

Confirmed measles cases in England and Wales

• 528 confirmed in London to July 2008, another 269 in rest of E & W

• 579 or 73% of all laboratory confirmed cases so far this year were in children aged one to 18 years

• To limit the extent of this measles outbreak, the Chief Medical Officer recently recommended that Primary Care Trusts undertake catch-up programmes
