A Sample Publisher Tutorial The Technology Integration Example (A Desktop-Published Literary Anthology) at the beginning of Chapter 5 showed how teachers might help students create their own desktop-published literary anthology. To make this project possible, teachers have to create a format for this anthology. Using the tutorial below, create a desktop-published format like the example shown here with Microsoft Publisher® software.

Required System Settings

1. This tutorial assumes that you have installed Microsoft Publisher® on your computer, including all additional fonts and clip art. If you do not have the fonts and clip art used in this tutorial, you can substitute others that you have on your system.

2. Before you begin, be

sure to have the Standard, Formatting and Object Toolbars available. Click View > Toolbars to select these as shown at the left.

Follow the steps below to crate the document show above. 1. Open Microsoft Publisher©

1.1 Select a Blank design

2. Insert title

2.1 Click Insert > Text Box

2.2 Click in the upper left corner of the page and Drag an area to establish the text box

2.3 Click inside the text box and enter the text "Poetry", then double-click on the word to select it

2.4 Set the type face to Bauhaus 93 and the font size to 130

2.5 Click and drag the rotation handle to turn the title 900 to the left. Hint: holding the shift key while rotating the text box will help to line it up straight.

2.6 Double-click on the text box border to open the Format Text Box window. Set the Height and Width as shown under the Size tab

2.7 Click OK

2.8 Click on the edge of the text box and drag it into position so that it aligns with the top blue margin line and the edge of the paper.

2.9 Click anywhere inside the text box and then click the Center alignment button on the Format tool bar

2.10 Double-click on the text (Poetry) to select it. Click Format > Font…

2.11 Select color as shown

2.14 With the text still selected, click Format > Character Spacing…

2.12 Click Shadow check box

2.13 Click OK

2.15 Increase the Tracking to 140%

2.16 Click OK

3. Adding color rectangles

3.1 Click the Rectangle button on the Objects toolbar

3.2 Click and drag the rectangle across the bottom of the page as shown.

3.3 Double-click the edge of the rectangle to open the Format AutoShape window. Click on the Color pull-down menu and select More Colors…

3.4 Select the color shown under the Standard tab

3.5 Click OK

4. Insert second title

3.7 Click OK

3.6 Under Line Color select No Line

3.8 Create a second rectangle, located as shown, following the steps above

4.1 Insert a second text box following the steps in 2.0 above

5. Inserting an image

4.2 Set the type face and font size as shown

4.3 Enter the text as shown

Hint: Add an extra space between title groups

5.1 Click Insert > Picture > Clip Art…

5.2 Insert "sunset" for the clip art search term

5.3 Click Go

5.4 Use the scroll bar to move through the clips to find the one desired 5.5 Click on the

clip to insert it on the page

5.6 Move and Resize the image as necessary

6. Save the document 7. Add pages to document

6.1 Click File > Save

6.2 Enter the file name

6.3 Click Save

8. Create second page text

7.2 Insert 4 for the Number of new pages

7.3 Be sure After current page is selected

7.4 Click OK

7.5 Additional page icons should now show at the bottom of the screen. Click on an icon to move between pages.

8.2 Click and drag the text box so that it almost fills the page as shown.

9. Create second page graphics

8.5 Click and drag or triple-click on the title to select it

8.6 Click the Bold and Italic buttons on the Formatting Tool Bar

8.7 Click and drag to select the text as shown

8.9 Click the Italic button

9.1 Click Insert > Picture > Clip Art…

9.2 Enter "sunset" as search term

9.3 Click Go

9.4 Scroll down to locate image

9.5 Click image to insert it

9.6 Click the image to select it

9.7 The Picture tool bar will appear

9.8 Click the Text Wrapping button on the Picture Toolbar

9.9 Click None

9.10 Click and drag the image to locate it at the upper left corner of the text box

9.11 Right-Click on the image and Click Order > Send to Back

9.12 Click and Drag the lower right corner of the image until it completely covers the text

9.13 Click inside the text box. Hold down the "Ctrl" and the "a" key (Ctrl+A) at the same time to select all the text.
