2017 NESSP SUMMER CAMP: MISSION TO MARS

Have fun with science and explore the limitless possibilities that your mind can create!

Few fields are growing as fast as STEM—science, technology, engineering, and math—and few show as much promise for future career opportunities. STEM education fosters valuable skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration, while providing opportunities to innovate and make a change.

Northwest Earth and Space Sciences Pipeline (NESSP) has designed a Summer Camp to inspire youth through participating in hands-on activities in STEM areas. Our vision is that youth learn while they have fun.

The 2017 NESSP Summer Camp is a 4-day experience that provides middle school students the opportunity to start exploring STEM careers through experiments, hands-on activities, and interactive exploration of science and technology. The theme this year is “Mission to Mars”. We will begin by exploring space travel and landing on Mars. Our space mission will continue with robotic exploration, including designing robots, data collection and competitions. Students will have access to LEGO Mindstorm, VEX IQ and VEX robots. All students will have an opportunity to spend time exploring an area of special interest including programming, STEAM (Art + STEM), Arduino kits or solar cars. Our final day will be all about rockets! We will have free Estes rockets for all participants and we will engineer water bottle rockets. All participants will get a free drawstring backpack and a NASA T-shirt.

The camp is made possible thanks to the support of NASA and the Northwest Earth and Space Sciences Pipeline. Silver Falls School District is hosting the camp at Silverton Middle School. The camp will run from June 27 to June 30, 2017. There is no cost for this camp.
