There are labels on the containers

Observation

Page 2: Mid summative 1 answers 2010

All of the seeds were planted on

the same day

Inference

Page 3: Mid summative 1 answers 2010

Some of the plants were taller

than others

Observation

Page 4: Mid summative 1 answers 2010

They put different

amounts of salt in the containers

Inference

Page 5: Mid summative 1 answers 2010

One container has smaller plants

because it has the most salt

Inference

Page 6: Mid summative 1 answers 2010

This experiment is to determine how salt affects plant

growth

Inference

Page 7: Mid summative 1 answers 2010

The students are pleased with the

way the experiment is turning out

Limestone•Reacts to acid test by fizzing due to presence of calcite

•Rock #’s 11, 15

Page 9: Mid summative 1 answers 2010

Sandstone•Rock made of grains of sands “glued” together

•Rock #’s 13, 16

Page 10: Mid summative 1 answers 2010

Shale•Smooth rock, does not react with acid

•Rock #’s 12, 14

Erosion and Deposition

•Erosion: The wearing away of earth’s materials via water, wind, ice or gravity

•Deposition: Sediment that is eroded is then “deposited” or put down someplace. This sediment eventually hardens and becomes sedimentary rock

Limestone

• Knew that it was limestone because it reacted with acid; sandstone and shale don’t react

• Layers and shell fossils were also good indicators

Page 14: Mid summative 1 answers 2010

Erosion

• Water: flowing water carries away particles of sediment and carves away the land

• Ice: water seeps into rocks and freezes which, over time, causes the rocks to split

• Wind: wind picks up small particles and carries them away
