TRANSCRIPT
There are labels on the containers
Observation
All of the seeds were planted on
the same day
Inference
Some of the plants were taller
than others
Observation
They put different
amounts of salt in the containers
Inference
One container has smaller plants
because it has the most salt
Inference
This experiment is to determine how salt affects plant
growth
Inference
The students are pleased with the
way the experiment is turning out
Inference
Limestone•Reacts to acid test by fizzing due to presence of calcite
•Rock #’s 11, 15
Sandstone•Rock made of grains of sands “glued” together
•Rock #’s 13, 16
Shale•Smooth rock, does not react with acid
•Rock #’s 12, 14
Erosion and Deposition
•Erosion: The wearing away of earth’s materials via water, wind, ice or gravity
•Deposition: Sediment that is eroded is then “deposited” or put down someplace. This sediment eventually hardens and becomes sedimentary rock
Observation and Inference
Observation InferenceSeveral different colored layers

Contained calcite XEnvironment when formed was a marine one

Reacted with acid x
Limestone
• Knew that it was limestone because it reacted with acid; sandstone and shale don’t react
• Layers and shell fossils were also good indicators
Erosion
• Water: flowing water carries away particles of sediment and carves away the land
• Ice: water seeps into rocks and freezes which, over time, causes the rocks to split
• Wind: wind picks up small particles and carries them away
