Fall and Halloween has some of the most beautiful colors. Purple, greens, orange and yellows.This was a fun piece to do. Hope you have fun paint-ing.

PREPARATIONNote: Read all instructions before beginning. If you have any of the suggested stencils, please use them. But if not, you can hand paint them. This background is easy to do. You will use the dome brush.

Dirty brush: this means that you don’t have to clean the brush in between colors. Just wipe out as much of the paint as you can on paper towels. Always use a brush the size to fi t area being painted.

Wood cutting• Cut from 1/4" wood. Drill two 1/8" hang holes at

the top. Sand and remove dust. • I used a makeup sponge (also known as a "beauty

blender") to basecoat the background. It is tight and not loose like a sea sponge. Cleans up with soap and water.

• Mix 2:1 Black and All Purpose sealer (more paint than sealer). Dip sponge into mix and sponge the surface. Be sure to cover completely. Let dry. Lightly sand if needed for a smooth surface.

• Using the dome brush, fi rst dip into White, tap on palette to load up in the brush, then wipe on paper towel to remove any blobs.

• Begin to lightly stroke the surface from top to bottom, going all the way across the wood.

• Repeat loading the brush as needed. Wipe off brush. You will use a dirty brush.

• Pick up Turquoise Blue, load the same as the White. Begin to add strokes over the White, but don’t cover it completely.

• Repeat with Grape Juice and Camel. You want to see hints of these colors. Let dry.

• Trace on basic lines.

Witch• Paint face and hands with Med Flesh. Shade with

Burnt Sienna. Highlight with a little White.• Dry brush cheek with a little Country Red.• Paint the eye with White. Then paint the pupil with

Black. Paint eye brows and lashes with Black.• Highlight eye with White.• Paint mole on chin with Burnt Sienna. Just a dot of

paint.• Paint legs Camel. Shade with Burnt Sienna.

Highlight with White. Paint the stripes with Turquoise Blue.

• Paint the shoes with Mistletoe. Shade with a

Black wash. Dry brush with a little Turquoise Blue, then a little White. Dot buttons with Dioxazine Purple. Highlight with Turquoise Blue.

• Paint X’s with White.• Paint the heels with Black. Highlight

with White.

Dress• Basecoat with Grape Juice. Shade

with Dioxazine Purple. Pull some dark lines down the dress.

• Dry brush with Light Buttermilk.• Paint the large button under chin with

Country Red. Highlight with Turquoise Blue. Paint the X with Black.

• Use a small star stencil or freehand stars using: Camel, Country Red, Turquoise Blue, and Mistletoe.

Hat, Cape, and Tires• Basecoat with Black.• Dry brush with Ultra Deep Blue,and

then White to highlight.• Pull some White lines across the hat.• Pull some Black lines down the cape.• Dry brush the tires the same. Then

shade tires with Black. I know this sounds strange. But after you drybrush, sometimes I get to close to the edge. So this will deepen the color and separate the two.

• Use your liner brush to lightly paint some lines going around the tires as scuff marks.

Hair and Bike• Using the liner brush, start with Mistletoe pulling the

hair out in squiggle lines. Pick up just a little Black with same brush and add a few black hairs.

• Load a clean brush with Irish Moss, add a layer of hair. Then highlight with White.

• Paint the handle bars of trike with Slate Grey and the bar going down to the center of tire.

• Paint the hand grips with Black. Highlight with White. Using your liner brush to pull out some fringe from hand grips White. Highlight with White.

• Paint frame Santa Red and highlight with White.• Paint the spokes with Slate Grey. Highlight with

White.• Wash a little Black wash across the ground area. Use

you liner brush to pull out some squiggle lines from the tires toward the back with Black and White.

Sky• Paint the moon and stars with Camel. Shade with

Burnt Sienna. Highlight with White.• Paint the bats with Black.

Outline and Spatter• Using your liner brush outline everything with Black.

Mix a little water with paint so it will fl ow easy.• Dip the old fan brush into water. Blot out water. Dip

into Black and press on palette to load brush. Tap the fan brush on the handle of another brush over

your trash can to remove any blobs. Then lightly tap over surface to spatter.

• Repeat with White. Let dry.

FINISHINGSpray with several light coats of Sealer. Hang with jute.
