Another one: A big eyed fish,
Yeah, swimming in the sea,
Oh, how he dreamed.
He wants to be a bird,
Swooping, diving through the breeze.
One day, he caught a big blue wave,
Up onto the beach,
And now he's dead.
You see, a fish's dream,
Should stay in the sea.
But, oh God,
Under the weight of life,
Things seem brighter on the other side.
I chose a verse from the song “Big Eyed Fish” by Dave
Matthews Band. I feel like the lyrics are about someone trying
to break through in life or them not breaking through and
falling. I picked this song and this verse because it is one of
songs I listen to most. The first picture I took is picture of
an Elementary school Diploma for graduating elementary school. I
thought this was a good way to show what I thought the first
part of the verse meant. The first part of the verse says
“another one: A big eyed fish, Yeah, swimming in the sea”, I
wanted to represent a child going to elementary school and being
just another kid. Someone who just blends in as just a normal
kid in a normal city.
The second picture I shot was of my high school. This was a
very good way to show what the words in the second part of the
verse mean. “Oh, how he dreamed. He wants to be a bird” is the
words in the second part and I wanted to show how in high school
people tell you can do anything you want if you just try and
apply yourself. You are told your whole life growing up that
your dreams come true so I took this picture because it
represented teenagers trying to think outside the box and get
there first real ideas of what they want to be after high
school.
The third picture I shot was of a sharp turn sign on the
side of the road. I took the picture while I was driving and I
didn’t stop because I wanted the picture that way to show that
sometime in your life you have to make fast decisions that might
make your life better or could hurt you. I wanted the picture to
show that even though you don’t have to slow down in life you
should think about things before you do them.
“One day, he caught a big blue wave, up onto the beach,
and now he's dead” is the lyrics in the fourth part of the
verse. I chose to take a picture of the Jackson Country Jail
because it represents people making the wrong decisions in life
and landing themselves or others in trouble. When you get in
trouble in not only effects you but other people around you.
In the last and final picture I took was of the Lake Monroe
Reservoir. “You see, a fish's dream, Should stay in the sea.
But, oh God, under the weight of life, Things seem brighter on
the other side” is the last part of the verse and I interpret it
to mean that no matter where you’re from or where you life home
is home and it will never change. I drive home every weekend and
I drive over the reservoir to get home and I took the picture
because the sun is always shining on the other side.
