Annual Bulb Exchange and Business Meeting coming up on October 25 That’s when we’ll have the Bulb Exchange and Annual Meeting of the Midwest Daffodil Society at Annex 1 of the Chicago Botanic Garden. We’ll start at 2 p.m. Light refreshments, probably cider and donuts, will be served. The bulbs we have for that event will include some from the garden of our champion shower Nancy Pilipuf and a few extra-special ones from John Reed’s catalog. Also we may have some bulbs left over from the sale, so everyone will walk away with bulbs worth more than their annual membership fee. Bring any daffodil bulbs you may have (labeled, please) and any other plants, seeds, or other things from your garden which you would like to share. As MDS members, you are welcome to attend with or without bringing some- thing. Everything will be shared by all. This meeting will also feature the election of officers. All offices except the directorships are one-year terms. A director serves for three years. Why not consider serving on the board. This year we had only one board meeting, and a fine time was had by all. If you are interested, please call me at 847 438-5309 or e-mail me at [email protected]. Have you tried Daffseek?Daffseek is the online catalog of

registered daffodils which keeps grow-ing and expanding its services and itsutility. It’s an example of pooling, mak-ing available, and keeping up to datemore information via the web than couldever be done with books and magazines.Any daffodil grower should know it anduse it. Give it a try. Sit at your computer orgo to the library and use theirs. On yourbrowser go to www.daffseek.org. Youwill see a page with a number of blanks. For a trial, type in “Thalia” for FlowerName, and click on “Submit Query” atthe bottom. Then spend a little timelooking around on the page that appears.Click one of the thumbnail pics. Thenclick it again. Then again. There arethree sizes for most of the photos, allow-ing close examination. You’ll see thatthis flower is on the Historics list andthat it came from Holland.
