Mike Wolf engineer I mixer I producer I musician History: 20 year veteran Mike Wolf has worked the gamut from Rock, Punk, Hip-hop, Gangsta rap, R&B, Gospel, Jazz, Country and Classical. Major credits include his work with Sony, Epitath, Interscope, E2 Music Group, Sanctuary Urban Music, Artists Direct-Radar Records, The Ultimate Group, TVT Records, Bomp Records, Triple X, Rock Legends Rodger Daltrey, Wayne Kramer, Carmine Appice, Producer Kim Fowley, The U.S. Bombs, Boo-Yah T.R.I.B.E., and more… Wolf, a graduate of M.I. in 1981, (then known as the Guitar institute of Technology) started his career as a lead guitar player for various local rock groups in Los Angeles before joining Rock drumming legend Carmine Appice in the group King Kobra (Capitol) in 1984. Following this short-lived success, he gradually became more interested in recording engineering and after attending production and engineering courses at a local city college, he built his first home studio. Initially this studio was to accommodate his own songwriting and collaborations, but his ambitions for a bigger and better sound led to a series of equipment upgrades and expansions of the studio into a for-hire small facility. As he outgrew these humble origins, he spotted a commercial studio for sale in Hollywood and became owner of the Music Box Recording Studio in 1992. Over the next seven years, Wolf engineered and produced over 50 album projects at the Music Box studio. Notable Clients and projects included over 2 dozen albums and compilations for veteran “power-pop” Indy label Bomp records…

Other notable recordings included a series of projects with his old friend andband-mate Carmine Appice, including Edgar Winter, and the “Guitar Zeus” Album I &II projects which included guest solo performances by rock guitar greats like BrianMay, Slash, Neil Schon, Mick Mars, Elliot Easton, Ted Nugent, Ty Tabor, Paul Gilbertand Others…. Another project with Carmine included writing and recording of theSoundtrack to “Chasing Destiny” a 2001 Film starring Christopher Lloyd and RodgerDaltrey…. Daltrey also recorded vocals as well as guitarist Denny Laine (Wings)

After 7 successful and busy years at the Music Box, Wolf took the opportunity to takesome much needed time off and sold the Music Box to his right hand man and studiomanager Jon Newkirk. Jon had big dreams and plans of studio ownership himselfand with Wolf as his consultant and negotiator, transformed the Music Box into amuch larger facility re-dubbed ‘Studio Atlantis’.

After 2 years in semi-retirement, Wolf desired to have a studio of his own again andopened Studio 5109, in an adjoining space to Atlantis as an associated butindependent studio to the Atlantis complex… In it’s first 3 years of operation, Studio5109’s productions focused on Urban, R&B, and Gospel. In this period, Wolf workedwith E2 Music Group (Tracy Edmunds), with staff producers Brainz and Freckles, aswell as mixing for E2 Filmworks Project “Havoc”.

Wolf also recorded or produced a number of projects for The Ultimate Group (ChrisStokes), including artist Lil’ Fizz (B2K), and bay area group Kalifam, where Wolfrecorded and mixed their 2004 release “This is how we live”. Wolf also worked withARTISTdirect Records (Ted Fields) artists: Curtains and Poverty, for who Wolftracked and mixed 2 album projects including “Ghetto Metal”…

Also in the Studio were Gospel artists: Ahnjel, and Minister Vernon Chappelrecording for First Tribe Media (Edwin Oliver) where Wolf tracked and mixed theAlbum releases “Faithful” and “Sing a New Song”…

Voice-over work included animation projects with producer Rick Zieff, Magic DreamsLLC, and Industrial productions for North South Studios LLC and KKM (KnowledgeKids Media).

Mike also produced an album for classical pianist Alessio Averone that was trackedat Capitol Records studio A, and edited and mixed at Studio 5109.

Album projects in 2005-2008 saw a return to Rock and Pop music including artistRay Hepinstall’s -‘Harley Girl’, Hollywood rock band: Dirty Pictures -‘Hollywood High’,Christian Rock artist Scott Gordin’s ‘Make Me a Worshiper’ and Veteran hard rockband Charlotte’s ‘Medusa Groove’

From 2007-2010, Mike recorded and mixed two album projects: ‘Dance or Cry’, and‘These are a few of my favorite songs’ from local and international favorite MarkLennon. (Lead vocalist of the band Venice) Mark has been busy with both his bandVenice and as touring member of the Rodger Waters Band on a two-year world tourof Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’

Another notable session in 2010 was NY based composer Glen Rovin’s production‘Poetic License’. Which included dramatic readings by celebrities such as JasonAlexander, Cynthia Nixon and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

In 2009 Legendary Hollywood Rock Producer Kim Fowley returned to Los Angeles toseek out a new recording studio and musician/engineer production partner toestablish his new base of operations. Kim chose Studio 5109 and owner/engineerMike Wolf as his new partner and chief “musicalizer” for his ongoing and prolificproduction schedule. Since his arrival Kim and Mike have been working steadily onartist development and album projects for an assortment of female artists and ‘girlgroups’….Kim is most famous for discovering artist Joan Jett and producing ‘TheRunaways’ as well as Helen Reddy and a string of hit singles in the 60’s, and 70’s…

Kim and Mike have recorded and produced the girl group ‘Black Room Doom’ andsolo artist album projects including Brianna Garcia’s ‘Lost Angels and TwistedDreams’ and Victoria De Mare’s ‘Actress’
