Typical 7th Grade Schedule
• 7 Classes/Subjects Daily • 5 Core Classes-Math, Science,
English, Social Studies, and PE/Health • 2 Encore classes (electives) • An Encore/elective MIGHT include a
math or reading intervention class • 30 minute lunch time

Students can demonstrate progress toward college and career readiness in English language arts and literacy. (Common Core State Standards) • Read Informational and Literary Texts
• Write for a variety of purposes and audiences
• Skills measured by the Smarter Balanced exam
• Offer Honors English in 7th and 8th Grade
Math • 2 courses offered for 7th graders- Course 2 and
Course 3 (pre-algebra) • Incorporates AVID strategies which include group
work, interactive notebooks, and CUBA (circle, underline, box, and analyze) for word problems.
• Use the state’s Common Core Standards as measured by the Smarter Balanced Exam
Science • Science supports Smarter Balanced and
Common Core by providing reading and writing in a content area
• Students use AVID strategies daily with WICOR and interactive notebooks
• Technology is integrated into projects and research

Social Studies
• 7th grade students in World History (1st semester) and Washington State History (2nd semester).
• Students take Washington State History in 7th grade as a high school graduation requirement.
• The CBA (Classroom Based Assessment) for this grade compares a pair of Washington State tribes.
Special Services
• Supporting students based on their individual needs with reading, writing, and math
• Some students might only be monitored by their case manager- others might see a special services teacher 3 to 4 class periods a day
English Language Learners
• Both teacher and paraeducator are fluent in Spanish
• Languages spoken include: Spanish, Filipino, Vietnamese, Samoan, and Trique
• Some students are only monitored by the ELL teacher; others might see their ELL teacher for 2 class periods.
PE/Health
• Staff members strive to emphasize life-long fitness skills and activities in a fun and accessible way

Days before school starts where families pick up required paperwork, complete it, and turn it in Pick up and check student’s schedule Opportunity to tour school and find classrooms and lockers
When is 7th Grade Orientation?
• Students can individually tour school during Back to School Days
• Teachers assist 7th graders with Orientation on the first day of school
