THE City Council com-mittee on infrastructure, chaired by Councilor Em-manuel Abejuela, is slated to tackle the inspection report from the Office of the City Building Official (OBO) relative to the request of Barangay 26 for a three-meter road-right-of-way beside Allison Motors at Zone 5, Barangay 26.

Based on the report, the proposed three- me-ter Road Right-Of-Way (RROW) access has an ap-proximate length of 64.00 meters, which is the shortest distance going to the main road (Osmeña extention) with a total distance of 120 meters from the interior residence along the Bitan-

ag Creek. It was observed that there are six existing alleys in the vicinity.

The committee invited the barangay chair, property owners, city engineer and City Building Official to attend its next meeting to discuss the matter.

In other development, the committee will also look into the report regarding the ocular inspection and verification conducted at Kapisnon, Kauswagan. This is in response to a complaint about the construction of a property fence in the area.

The committee invited the lot owner, city adminis-trator, city engineer and city building official to address this. (JBD/arjaysfelicilda)

Dili man unta kini husto apan gikalimtan man sila sa atong mga punoan.

Ang among lungsod pas-tilan midaku ako nga magka-

wos sa tubig labihan ka layo. Walay ma-inom. Apan

•••Mitoo man unta kita kay

Wala. Unsa man ang gibu-hat ni PNoy? Gipatas-an ang buhis sa sigarilyo ug ilimnon. Nawala ba ang mga manigarilyohay ug pala-inom? Wala.

ILIGAN City - The Mil-lion Volunteer Run of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) demonstrated the Philip-pines’ lead in championing the spirit of volunteerism as a means of saving lives.

This was expressed by Chair Henry C. Dy of the Philippine Red Cross RC Iligan Chapter and Board of Governor, PRC-National Chapter, in his message ad-dressed to more than 8,000 runners during a short pro-gram of the million run at the city public plaza, Iligan City, on February 10.

Vice Mayor Dy, being the second highest ranking

official of the local govern-ment of Iligan represented Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz, in this nationwide event, si-multaneously done in Metro Manila and other key cities in the country.

He extended his grati-tude to the multi-sector response. He said, their participation was a sign that eventually makes each run-ner into a part of a dynamic and dedicated network of volunteers who are always first, always ready, always there.

Students from the De-partment of Education, pub-lic and private sector, led the huge crowd of participants. Plant industries in the city,

the national government offices, as well as the local government unit-city and barangay level, woke up as early as 4 a.m. to join and support the activity.

Meanwhile, Genevieve C. Amodia, administrator of PRC Iligan, urged every-one especially the youth to join the organization. As volunteer, she said that one can avail training on first-aid, disaster management, community health care and others.

As volunteer, you can share your life with others, and in doing so, become blessed in multiple ways, Amodia said.(LVG/PRC Iligan/PIA 10-LDN/asf)

CAGAYAN de Oro City - The Directorate for Logistics in Camp Crame has pro-vided Police Regional Office of Region 10 (PRO-10) 11 motorcycles that will be used to boost police visibility in Northern Mindanao. The end-users, mostly from remote barangays, can now expand their visits to areas not passable by patrol cars, said PCSupt Catalino B. Rodriguez Jr, regional director, PRO-10. He added although this number is far below when compared to the total num-ber of police stations in the region, PRO-10 leadership is hoping that equipping its police force with the ability to fight criminality through

the acquisition of these mo-torcycles and other police equipment will remain a continuing program of the PNP. Those who received the motorcycles were the chiefs of police of Kitaotao and Baungon municipal police stations in Bukidnon, Kaus-wagan and Munai municipal police stations in Lanao del Norte, Sapang Dalaga and Aloran municipal police sta-tions in Misamis Occidental, Opol, Naawan, Medina and Tagoloan municipal police stations in Misamis Orien-tal and Police Station 4 of Cagayan de Oro City Police Office. Philippine National Police turns-over motorcycles to police stations

By PSupt Ronnie Francis M. Cariaga III of Bukidnon likewise turned-over nine vehicles for use of Kibawe, Kadin-gilan, Dangcagan, Kitaotao, Don Carlos, Quezon and Maramag municipal police stations. Two other vehicles were turned-over to the Regional Public Safety Bat-talion. With the continued sup-port extended by the local government units and other stakeholders, PRO-10 can sooner achieve a truly dedi-cated and highly motivated Philippine National Police (PNP) with modernized resources to prevent and control all forms of crimes. The PNP leadership has always been sincere in transforming the police organization into a more credible police force. Patrol

Plan 2030 is its roadmap towards achieving this vi-sion. Meanwhile, it was not-ed in the previous weeks that PRO-10 completed the training of computer encoders in the different police stations concern-ing the PNP e-rouges and e-warrant system. This new project will aid and assist the police investigators and tracker teams in identifying per-sonalities with criminal records anywhere in the country. These are just some of the many projects that the PNP have launched to improve its efficiency in carrying out its mission. (PSupt Ronnie Francis M. Cariaga/PRO/PIA10/asf)

OROQUIETA City - A total of 48 applications for permit to carry firearms, mostly by can-didates and businessmen have been received by the Commis-sion on Elections (Comelec) in Misamis Occidental, as of Feb. 14, this year. Atty. Stalin A. Baguio, provincial election supervisor, however, clarified that all the said applications have been endorsed to the Committee on the Ban on Firearms and Security Personnel (CBFSP) at the Comelec Central Office, which has the sole power to issue the authority to bear firearms, starting December 3, 2012. The authority also covers the carrying or transporting of firearms, including its spare parts, explosives and its com-ponents, outside the residence and place of business in the

country, he said. This is provided in Reso-lution 9561-A that Comelec has recently promulgated to implement Section 261 (q) of the Omnibus Election Code and Sections 32 and 33 of Republic Act No. 7166 in con-nection with the May 13, 2013, automated national and local elections. Baguio said any Permit to Carry Firearms Outside Residence (PTCFOR), Mission Order (MO), Letter Order (LO) and Acknowledgement Receipts (ARE) issued by the Chief, Philippine National Police (PNP) or his duly au-thorized representative are hereby declared suspended, ineffective, and without force and effect, unless properly covered by Certificates of Au-thority (COA) duly issued by the Comelec CBFSP. Also rendered without force and effect, unless properly

covered by a COA of the CBFSP are the PTCFOR’s, MO’s, LO’s and ARE’s issued by any other head of government law en-forcement/security agencies, prior to or are processed and issued during the election period, from Jan. 13 to June 12, 2013. Baguio said the CBFSP refers to the Committee in the Comelec which is responsible for the implementation of the ban on the bearing, carrying or transporting of firearms and the employment, availment

or engagement of security personnel. Headed by Commissioner Elias R. Yusoph as Chairperson and a Senior Officer designated by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the PNP, as members, the CBSFP also exercises operational control and supervision over the Re-gional Joint Security Control Center (RJSCC) and the Pro-vincial Joint Security Control Center (PJSCC). CAGAYAN de Oro City – To ultimately attain the country’s goal of rice self-sufficiency, the Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Division (RAFID) in coordination with the Agri-Pinoy Rice Program of the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-10) will spearhead a regionwide Information Cara-van on the 2013 National Year of Rice (NYR) from February 26-28 and March 7, 2013, in the provinces of Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Camiguin, respectively. Wherein, an overall of 2,000 participants are expected to join the event. Bearing the theme “Sapat na Bigas, Kaya ng Pinas”, it is a social marketing and advocacy campaign which seeks to attain the three-fold goal of achieving rice self-sufficiency in the country, promoting better health among rice consumers, and improving the productivity and income of rice farmers. Included in the activity will be a briefing on the 2013 NYR of Rice, which was officially de-clared by President Benigno S. Aquino, III under Proclamation No. 494, signed on October 18, 2012. Complement to this, there

The 2013 NYR logo includes the letters N, Y and R to denote the National Year of Rice, using the colors of the Philippine flag and forming a rice plant. It also represents the three sectors that will be contributory in the attainment of rice self-sufficiency: Producers (farmers), Public and Policymakers.

National Year of Rice Info Car to highlight rice self-sufficiency

will be an open discussion that will take course between farmers and the DA fea-turing topics such as Rice Varieties for Adverse Conditions, Community Seed Banking and Various Farm Machineries and Equipment assisted by the region. The department’s attached agencies will also be joining, including the Na-tional Food Authority, National Irriga-tion Administration, Philippine Rice Research Institute and the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation who will likewise tackle on additional production support, post-harvest and farm mechanization assistance, market development services and insurance coverage.

With the NYR affair at hand, the DA-10 anticipates to enlist more agricultural stakeholders, including farm-producers, general public and policymakers to have higher regard and increased productivity among rice farmers as well as healthier rice consumers. Along this line, the de-partment also counts on the reduction of rice wastage and importations in finally realizing rice self-sufficiency by the year 2013 closes. Last year, Northern Mindanao produced 637,347 million metric tons of palay. This is 4.31% higher compared to 2011’s rice production, also registering a 74% suf-ficiency level. #(Joanne L. Olson, DA-10)

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) imple-mented the necessary preparations and precautions to minimize the impact of Tropical Depression Crising on NGCP operations and facilities. Preparations include ensuring the reliability of communications equipment, availability of hardware materials and supplies necessary for the repair of damages to facilities, as well as the positioning of line crews in strategic areas, to facilitate immediate restoration work. NGCP’s Integrated Disaster Ac-tion Plan (IDAP) prescribes these and other procedures to ensure the readiness of all power transmission facilities which are expected to be affected by the passage of the weather disturbance. At 10:00 AM yesterday, the tropical depression was estimated, based on satellite and surface data, to maintain maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and move west northwest at 22 kph. TD Crising is expected to make landfall over Jose Abad Santos, Davao del Sur within the afternoon. NGCP’s Overall Disaster Com-mand Center, which operates 24 hours a day, will monitor all power restoration activities, reports and updates from the Regional Com-mand Centers in North Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, whichever is directly affected by the weather disturbance. It will also closely coordinate and communicate with the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC), other government offices, local and national media agencies.

NGCP prepares for Tropical Depression Crising
