Congratulations, Russ on receiving the Fleming Veteran Alumni Award! The AFA national convention was a big success. Themes for this year included Board diversity and a push for membership. Several new board members were elected with these themes and goals in mind. Larry Sagstetter was asked to consider being a member of the National Education Committee. The meeting was adjourned at 1840 hours. NOVEMBER’s meeting was called to order on Veteran’s Day at 1730 hours. There were 34 members and guests. October’s meeting minutes were reviewed and approved. But, expenditures of $1,123.51 for postage and AFA convention expenses were made. Bruce Roberts reviewed the charitable resources

Hubbard Broadcasting will be the presenting sponsor for the 2015 Air Force awards dinner. The venue remains at Town & Country Club in St. Paul on Friday 10 April. Janelle Gates from the Minnesota Wing of the Civil Air Patrol updated us on the CAP’s Color Guard competition. Noted was the Viking Squadron’s third win in as many years!

AFROTC Det 410 from the U of St.Thomas noted they were in the midst of their 24-hour vigil for POW/MIA remembrance. On 15 Nov, they have a base visit planned at the 934th AW. The Unit also took 8th place in fitness and 12th in academics out of 145 ROTC units nationally. They are planning on sending 3 or 4 teams to the Flying Irish basketball tournament at Notre Dame.

AFROTC Det 415 from the U of MN reported that they held their joint Military Athletic Competition. They, too, will be sending 3 or 4 teams to the Flying Irish basketball Tournament at Notre Dame.

Julie Eszlinger-Jensen surprised everyone with a decorated sheet cake to celebrate Veterans’ Day.

Note that now the Armed Forces Service Center at MSP airport will have their door open for reservists and guardsmen. One must still have a valid ID card, and the center is not open to retirees as noted in its charter.

naval aviator, gave a presentation on his tours of duty in Korea. He also gave a rundown of the War Bird Museum. It is open Tuesday through Saturday for tours. But, because they are located on the ANG base, one needs a military person or a military ID to visit. Except on Family Day in August, when the museum is open to the public.

Chaz Johnson, a constituent liaison with Congressman John Kline’s office, made a second presentation. The Honorable John Kline is a former Marine. He focuses his attention on Academy appointments, oversight of the VA, helps to improve responses to sexual assault incidents for guard and reserve members.

Mr. Johnson encourages everyone to contact their congressmen and make their opinions known on issues about which they are concerned.

The meeting was adjourned at 1845.

Minutes for December’s chapter meeting will be reviewed in the next newsletter.
