12. UNF'INISHED BUSINESS

13. MAYOR & COUNCILLORS FORUM

14. INQUIRIES

14.1 Council•lor D. Nowoselsky- Water P.ipe Replacement Cost

What dollars, over the next ten (1 0) years, will the City require to expedite the replacement of the 60 ki'lometers of worn out water pipe and do we have any record of how much annual water is being lost to worn out water pipes.

The Diliector of Public Works, in responding to the inquiry, indicated that in the last six (6) years, not including this year the Ci,ty has replaced 7,200 meters of cast ·iron pipes. We have reduced the number of pipes from 69.4 kilometers to 62.2 kilometers and this year we wi'll be doing in around the thousand (1,000) to fourteen hundred (1' ,400) approximately. We win, be closing in on the 60 kilometers mark which is out of the 220 kilometers of piping. As far as the costs go, each year for the last six (6) years we have made slight increases in our request for the budget, for the replacement. Between the watermain and sewermain replacement we are at about approximately two (2) million per year. Right now we feel comfortable at that Ieveii and would only ask for increases as we feel we have the capacity or the price has gone up and ab:le to comp:lete the work in one (1) year. As far as long term plan, of course we want to continue to replace them all, but we are talking about a term that at the present rate will be much beyond ten (10) years.

14. 2 Coun.cil1lor D. Nowoselsky- Waste Water Treatment Pl'ant Upgrade

When will the Ci.ty have to start doing upgrades to the Waste Water Treatment p:11ant and what is the cost to have this vital service refurnished/upgraded.

The Director of Public Works, in responding to the inquiry, .indicated that just shy of two (2) years ago the twenty - five (25) Year Masterplan for the Waste Water Treatment Plant was completed. The Plan came up with a lot of different recommendations that we should be moving forward on. Presently, about two thirds (2/3) of that Plant is from the original construction from 19.71 - 1972. As far as timing goes, the sooner we can get to the Plan, the better off we are. Presently running about five to six thousand dollars ($5, 000 - $6,000) per week of repairs to just keep the p1lant alive. We did make application at the federal level for funding of the project. We were not successful on this part.icular project. We always keep our eyes open for federal or provincial funding, but the day will come when we will have to move on the project.
