_studio task - bad bank; to adapt properties and qualities of the given term in the project approach_short description of what bad bank represents : bad bank is a term for a nancial institution created to hold nonperforming assets owned by a state guaranteed bank. such institutions have been created to address challenges arising during an economic credit crunch wherein private banks are allowed to take problem assets off their books._no given program_given site, paris, la defense, the end point of the histori-cal axis of paris
_by analysing the site and the main icons on the historical axis of paris, the fact, that there are already the three im-portant arches, was crucial for a challenging idea of creat-ing another arch. _the design, of the yet another arch, was achived through the comparison of the three existing arches on the axis, enough to gain important characteristic elements to start with. [appearence, dimention, material, size, hight] _in a bad bank context, the proposed architectural ob-ject represents a new place of interests next to la defense square, a forgotten place for socializing, but with a big po-tential. a place where happenings and meetings could be favored ; another bad bank characteristic is the sustain-ability of the building [which works by having very cheap of ces for rent and expensive luxurious panoramic restau-rants, big of ces, at the 6 upper oors]. 09

_studio task - bionics; looking into growth, development, evolu-tion, particle connections, environment behavior, etc. of natural ele-ments_no given program_no given site
_crystals | self growing skin_experiments about sugar crystal growth and their behavior were the rst part of the project. through an elaborater research about crystals, i found out about the TiO2 crystals, which have the capac-ity of cleaning the polluted air._the titanium dioxide crystals break the chemical connection be-tween the pollution and the air particles; by cleaning the air this way, the TiO2 crystal grow [ research: TiO2 crystals are used in air cleaning sprays; a 2009 project is focusing on TiO2 capacity of depolluting and its proposal is a titanium dioxide layer|coat on highways, buildings]_the project, based on the experiments and research, is placed in the middle of berlin, germany, were the pollution rate is increased. _at the beginning the architectural object is just a nacked structure [plate and pillars] with 2 vertical circulation nodes and a ramp that surrounds the whole building. the structure cover is a TiO2 grid, with different openings. a parking hall is the program that the struc-ture is rst hosting. by bringing more pollution and controlling it to surround the entire building the TiO2 grid grows by itself. by the time the grid starts to cover partialy the program and the spaces suffer a conversion. the open air structure gains limits, as in walls, in time, when the crystals cover the entire grid | self growing skin. 21

self growing skin
_the skin is a TiO2 grid with different sizes of openings [depending on the archi-tectural needs after its growth - windows | opaque walls]_the polluted air is cleaned up while the TiO2 lattice skin grows and surrounds the entire building with an opaque crystal skin_the proposed functions are adjusted, - rst a parking hall [for a faster growth of the skin], - exhibiton hall [open air till the skin grows adequate], - library, happen-ings host and in the end the spaces could be used as any other ones by the time the skin isolates the outside from the inside

_studio task - conversion of old factories_no given program_given site bucharest, romania
_looking at the urban tissue of the surrounding ar-eas and at the given factories was enough to see the evolution of the site. there was a big difference visible, in terms of building sizes. the bucharestian tissue suffered a lot of changes during the time._the project was approached from this point of view, by researching the given site history. several time periods of the site were analyzed to nd the break of the continuity in the evolution of the urban tissue._three different tissue patterns are used in the project development. a pattern of the trace of the building that were built there before, a pattern of the factories trace, and one of the surface that was never built on. the three of them were overlayed. _the trace of the old houses was extruded and in-tersected with the actual factories. the parts of the factories volumes which were intersected by the old housing extruded trace were removed. each open face that resulted from this intersection is treated as a section, nished with glass curtain. the pattern of the never built on surface becomes the trace for the new proposed buildings, by the time the trace of the old buildings becomes public space. 35

_studio task - revitalization of the given area_given program : sports hall for 3000 spec-tators [due to the site location and its rela-tion to existing sports facilities in the prox-imity, a challenge is to take into account a different approach on how to attract people]_given site : bucharest, romania
_the site is located on an important avenue in bucharest with a long opening to the street. i decided to hide the building behind a big wall on the street side, to arouse the curiosity of people, to make them want to nd out whats not visible._the strong limit to the street is con rmed by having a large opening to a square on the other side. the building is decomposing and in this way its creating different kind of squares and alveolar spaces. _the whole building is a social hub, a shop-ping center, and a meeting place, where all kind of sports are scattered through the entire building [basket, ping pong, dancing, swimming, tness, etc]. the sports hall is in front of the main entrence, a direct contact is unavoidable in the moment people enter the building. 51

_studio task - component based architecture _given program : urban furni-ture_no given site
_the project challenge was to propose a component based urban furniture, to build a 3d model of it, to think about every single detail[material, joints, screws, etc], and in the end to build a physical model._the design concept was based on human ergonom-ics de nition. more ways of people sitting shapes were researched, and the chairs sections that showed up were lofted._using a 3d component was our own challenge._the components joints had to be analyzed as well, so that no errors appear while building the furniture model._475 different components were needed to build the pro-posed object. 63
