“In February 1945, Bill Morse, one of those instrumental in founding Wi-Ne-Ma Christian Camp, wrote in a letter to
‘Pastors, Churches, and Christian people in the state of Oregon’…’It seems this haven of peace by the sea should
be purchased for the benefit of Christian youth and people where they might go for retreats, recreation, and wor-
ship; developing as Christ would have them, in wisdom, stature, and in favor with God and man.’ Seventy-five
years later the Camp administrators continue to reach out to invite your participation in the development of Wi-Ne-
Ma Christian Camp. Many of the facilities date back to those early days. The effects of time, climate, and usage
have taken their toll. A concerted effort to restore, replace, or rebuild the Camp’s facilities beginning with the south
end of Camp, is being launched.
Last fall an initiative to raise funds to develop the Camp, with the goal to raise $750,000 in honor of the seventy-
five years of ongoing ministry through youth camps and family conferences. The response has been tremendous.
From the Friends of Wi-Ne-Ma Day special offering, through Giving Tuesday, into the Christmas giving season,
and beyond, to date, $363,000 has been given or promised. The Camp has received gifts from estate distribution,
property, memorial gifts, and cash gifts. Currently the board is considering the Camp’s strategic plan alongside the
physical and program development needs. Please pray as they take the next few months to gather information
and seek direction for these efforts.
Your prayers are one way to be involved in Camp and are the foundation of the ministry. Here are five areas to
talk with God about the Camp:
Pray for safe and healthy summers. Pray for safety and health for campers and staff, especially for those
who provide health care.
Pray for the staff. Realize that the program staff is made up of volunteers who invest a week of their time in
the lives of the campers. Pray for their endurance and energy. Pray that God would give them the words and
smiles to meet each camper where he or she is and to make them feel loved. Pray also for the support staff;
for the kitchen, maintenance, housekeeping, and administrative people who work so hard to make camp a
special place.
Pray for the campers. The aim is for the campers to know that God cares for them through their experience at
Camp, and for them to have the opportunity to hear and respond to the call of Christ upon their lives.
Pray for the leadership staff. Each camp or conference session is led by a program director and leadership
team that has spent months planning and preparing for that camp session. Pray that God will use their efforts
in a special way to connect with campers and participants.
Pray that the glory will be to God. Wi-Ne-Ma is a Christ-centered camp with the primary goal to glorify God
in all things. Pray that God would use everything that happens at Wi-Ne-Ma for His purpose and His glory.
By praying you can be an active participant in the good that the Lord is doing in this place.”
A 75th anniversary celebration featuring a production of “The Passion of Christ” will be held on Saturday, August
17th at 7:00 p.m. at First Christian Church (now Friends Center) 200 South College Street in Newberg.
