OUR MISSION AND PROJECT STRATEGY In the Renaissance era the interactive and operative exchange between different cultural realities and apparently opposite domains, such as science and art, was a normal spiritual exercise that nowadays unfortunately is not practised with the same spontaneity like in the period of Humanism and universal education. With these premises, Design of the Universe, a group of independent European architects and curators based in France, has been engaged in the conception and in the production of interdisciplinary projects on an international level in order to trigger the dialogue between science and arts and to optimize its communication. From this particular research surprising contaminations in various domains have arisen, a new cultural matrix permeated by the knowledge of astronomy, astrophysics and archaeological astronomy and represented and visualized by means of architecture, design and fine arts. Our main interest is the space and the universe, its infinite galaxies and the antique quest how the skies mirror on the earth. So it goes without saying that we are equally interested in nature, in biology, botany and zoology, and that all our projects demand constant verification about Man’s behaviour towards the universe, nature, and life in it. Our work aims at taking humans to a superior level of consciousness and responsibility, to mindful actions and constructive thoughts, reaching out for a new ethical balance. Design of the Universe does not work on commission and does not reproduce projects that were already realized in other places before and under previous circumstances. The rigour of our activities focuses on three principal features: the architectural quality of the project area, the history of the place and the project’s topic connected with it. These coordinates usually generate a very complex cultural semiotic opus, planned exclusively for the occasion, and implicate a sometimes provoking confrontation between different fields of research from new perspectives. This fusion, meant as a work in progress, adds a vital and dynamic force to the historical substance. This concept based on our curators’ necessarily site-specific project outline is not at all casual, but defined by the objective to give a plus-value to the architectural resources, becoming a

This concept based on our curators’ necessarily site-specific project outline is not at all casual, but defined by the objective to give a plus-value to the architectural resources, becoming a

topic of research as well. This is an excellent method for the promotion of a transversal choreography when art dialogues with science. Design of the Universe interacts with national and international centres of culture and science, centres of research, universities, astronomical observatories, and planetariums, and botanical gardens. Our program is to develop, to make known and to promote different ways of approaching science through culture and to plan innovative interdisciplinary proposals that might be useful in the framework of general education.

Frequently Design of the Universe has been involved in big projects with historical layers and has been working ever since with scientists, researchers and artists that deal with the crossing of scientific with cultural heritage. But we also plan and execute projects tied with empirical and experimental features based on technology and updated research. Due to the intent to unite diverse scientific disciplines with contemporary art and culture, the first traces of the design of a universal starry sky have surfaced, even though realty and dream in certain constellations have overlapped and mostly in a dimension that still has to be shaped. We continue to believe in the ideal of a world where congenial places come into view, created for cultivating knowledge, some sort of genesis, completion and exchange of ideas, the heritage of science and art and its passing on to the next generation as a matter of cultural ethics: our original mission www.design-of-the-universe.com @designoftheuniverse www.facebook.com/designoftheuniverse In collaboration with Design for Everyday Life www.designforeverydaylife.com @designforeverydaylife.new P.R. and press office: www.calliopebureau.eu @bureau_calliope
