American Red Cross Blood Drive: Interview with Jada Hoerr, Blood Drive Organizer

1) What made you decide to host a blood drive?

My sister has autoimmune hepatitis. Essentially, her body attacks her liver. On her health journey she has had many stints that she was transfusion dependent. Her life was dependent on blood donors.  I myself have not given in years and I realized my need to give to support my sister and the millions of people like her who need donor blood to live. Simply donating didn't seem like enough. I wanted to encourage everyone to give.  I know I can't control my sister's health and her journey, but I felt called to do something in her honor.

2) Why Richwoods?

As a believer in Jesus, the concept of saving blood is very real to me!  When considering a location for the drive, I immediately thought of the church.  What better place to collect blood to save lives!  Also, the Red Cross is always looking for new donors and willing to establish new relationships with donor locations.

3) Why should I donate blood?

Today there is a shortage in the Red Cross banks across the country.  An average day requires 95,000 units. The Red Cross is operating at 80,000 units this summer.  Every unit saves 3 lives.  There is a clear need and an opportunity to bless others in ways we will never know!

4) I'm unable to donate blood, are there any other ways to be involved?

Yes, if you can't donate, we still need you!   1) invite your friends to register  2) volunteer to work the drive 3) volunteer to make cookies or bring snacks to the blood drive  4) pray for a successful event.

Richwoods is excited to host this inaugural conference on September 16 & 17, and much help is needed! This two-day event will require at least 100 volunteers. Volunteers are needed for a range of activities from hospitality to greeting, set-up to technical assistance, grounds care to escorts for speakers…the list goes on. We are excited for the opportunity to host this conference and inspire, encourage, and equip pastors from small churches around the midwest and beyond. If you are interested in helping make this dream a reality, visit www.surveymonkey.com/r/95cVolunteers. Thanks for taking a minute to consider being part of this milestone event! #ExploreBlessings #95c2016
