CREATIVE STEWARDSHIP Do you own stock or other appreciated assets? Do you have an Individual

Retirement Account (IRA)? Do you pay taxes? If you answered yes to any

of these questions, you will want to consider these financial facts as 2017

draws to a close.

Fact #1

By donating appreciated assets prior to selling them, you can give in a

way that is tax-smart-avoiding steep capital gains taxes while increasing

your Kingdom impact. For example, if you have held stocks for a least a

year and a day, you can give them as a charitable gift that is much more

tax-efficient than a gift of cash.

Fact #2

If you are at least 70 1/2 years or older, you can transfer up to $100,000

per calendar year, tax-free, from your IRA to a qualified charity. This will help you meet your required minimum distribution (RMD).

Fact #3

In order to secure your tax deduction for 2017, your gift must be

completed by December 31st.

Armed with these financial facts, you can make the most of the opportunity

that year-end giving presents. Do so today, before it is too late to develop

your plan to pay less to the government and more to the Kingdom.

WORSHIP ARTS GATHERING

The Handbell Choir, Sanctuary

Choir and Praise Team will gather

for a holiday potluck dinner on

Thursday, December 14th in the

Fellowship Hall at 6:15 pm. Sign up

at rehearsal and let us know what

you plan to bring or contact Valicia

Weege at [email protected]. This

will be a great time to fellowship

with the Lesters and others

involved in Worship Arts at

Heritage.

I want to begin with praise to our Lord, Jesus Christ, for the ways I have been able to see Him work in the life of my family and in the life of other Heritage Church families. Charles Spurgeon once said, “Train up a child in the way he should go – but be sure to go that way yourself.” This is so true. We may (and should) want a Christian walk for our family, but it must begin with us individually; it starts with me…it starts with you! So my first question is: What are your personal spiritual goals for this year? Do you have A REGULAR TIME you spend with God in His Word and in prayer? If not, it’s time to start! It is VITAL for you, your family and for the life of the Church. More about this in a moment.

Much has weighed heavy on my heart as it pertains to the families in the church (local and global). It seems that societal demands are greater and we find ourselves having to make real serious choices between the temporal and the eternal. Personally, I am tired of the world winning. I want to see victory for God’s Kingdom first and it making an impact on society. I want to see Wednesdays and Sundays held in reverence once again. I want to see God as priority in the homes once again. I want to see church as the place to worship but the means in which our gifts and talents are ALL pulled together for the sake of the body. I want to see true disciples (ones who make disciples who make disciples that transform the world for Jesus Christ). I want to see how our personal time with the Lord amplifies our church family time together. I want to see young and old called into ministry again. I want to see worshippers arise. I want to see a city that has been evangelized to every corner. In short: I want to see God start winning and revival in the River valley.

One of the most pivotal places this can happen is in the family (the home) and in the family (the Church). God has pressed on my heart four areas of focus in the family for this coming year: Intergenerational Worship (Church Family), Family Time, Parenting and Marriages. These have been on my heart for some time. We will introduce a parenting class this year that focuses on the spiritual foundations for parenting. We will continue to develop and find ways to have Family Nights on several occasions throughout the year. We will also be having a marriage retreat this year as well. More information on these will develop in the weeks to come.

However, one of the greatest ways that I see God working is through the Wednesday Night teaching and Encounter time. We are truly encountering God in some amazing ways as we bridge the gap between multiple generations. If you haven’t been…you are missing out. If you have been I know you have seen the Spirit of God move. So why did we do this to begin with? Honestly, Pastor Wes and I felt God directing us in this way through circumstances and prayer. So we decided to step out in faith as the Lord led us to test the waters of intergenerational worship. I have to say, personally, God was and is still doing something amazing. I have seen more boldness, attentiveness, worship, and faith displayed in our teens through this time. I have seen parents pray over their children, youth pray over adults they don’t even know, walls broken down, and the Church being the Church together. I get excited thinking about this as I write to you this note! God is good…so good…and He is moving! Psalm 145:4 says, “one generation shall commend your works to another, and shall

declare Your mighty acts.” The world is trying to separate us and put each of us in our own personal corner (particularly in the

rise of social media). But God intended family…he made us for one another. The Church is Family! And I am so grateful to be a part of this one at Heritage. My hope is that for those who are reading this and have yet to come…please come (some parents that have youth attending and you have not yet come…I urge you…please

come!). God is at work and wants you to be a part. Thank you for letting me serve you in this area of ministry at Heritage. God has some amazing things in store for our family!

Below is a FAMILY NIGHT that can be done over the holiday break. I hope that you would at least spend some time together setting some personal and family spiritual goals. You can read about this below. If you ever have any questions, please feel free to contact me here at church. My prayer is that you and your family will have a very Merry Christmas; one filled with the joy of the true meaning of the season: Immanuel, God with us!

CELEBRATE & ACTIVATE

December 20 – January 2! 1. Choose ONE Night Over the Break (or more) 2. Celebrate God’s Work in Your Lives This Year 3. Praise God Together/Pray Together 4. Set Goals for the Next Year/Layout the Plan! 5. Play a Game/Laugh/Enjoy One Another
