Magnetic Level Gauges Magnetic Level Indicators are used in applications requiring continuous measurement, indication and control of liquid levels. The design relies on the hydrostatic pressure principle to display tank level in a side mounted measuring chamber. A float, containing a magnet, rises and falls with the liquid level in the bypass chamber. This approach allows an all metal Construction which eliminates the breakage and leakage problems frequently experienced with glass tube designs. Transmission, Visual indication or Switches is achieved by mounting magnetically sensitive devices on the exterior of the bypass chamber. These devices track or are activated by the magnet inside the float. Construction and Operation The Communicating bypass chamber is mounted with flanges to the side or top of a vessel. The float rises and falls with the liquid in the tank (refer fig.0). The chamber is completely sealed so that the moving part of the apparatus in contact with the liquid is the float itself. On the dry side of the chamber there is the magnetic display consisting of a column with flappers which are white on one side and red on the other. Flappers are made from Stainless steel with a distance of 10mm between their axes. As the float moves up or down the bunched field of the permanent magnet in its top suction pulls the flappers rotation of 180°, thus changing their colour. As the float rises the flappers are turned from the white to red, and as the float falls, they are changed back to white again. This means that at any given time the amount of liquid is constantly represented by a red column without any external power supply.

Reflex Level Gauges The principle of Reflex Level Gauges is based on the difference in the refractive indices of liquid and vapor. The liquid column is contained within the recess of the liquid chamber behind the sight glass, which is clamped to the gauge body. The sight glass has prismatic right-angled grooves on the side facing the liquid and vapor space. Light rays entering from outside the gauge are either absorbed or reflected depending upon whether they enter the liquid or vapor space. When the ray of light encounters the surface of one of the grooves in the vapor space, it is reflected to the opposite surface of the grooves and from there, totally reflected back to the direction of observation. Thus, vapor space appears as silvery white. When the light ray encounters the surface of the grooves in the liquid space, it is totally absorbed; thereby making the liquid behind the glass appears black. These gauges are used for measuring the level in a vessel. Maximum pressure of up to 250 bar and a maximum temperature of 350°C. The different brightness in the two zones is obtained as explained below:

Liquid Zone This zone appears quite dark when the gauge is in operation and lighted. Given the construction, most of the environmental light rays incident on the external face of the glass are quite perpendicular to said face and, therefore, not deviated by the glass. These rays reach the glass/liquid interface with an inclination of approx. 45°. The critical angle glass/liquid is always superior to 45°. Therefore the rays incident within the critical angle (practically the totality) are refracted within the liquid and, since the internal walls of the gauge chamber are not reflecting, the rays cannot be seen from the outside. In fact the zone will appear dark, nearly black, to the observer.

Gas / Vapor Zone This zone appears almost silver bright to the observer. As for the liquid zone, the light rays reach the glass/ gas-vapor interface with an angle around 45°. Since this angle is greater than glass/gas-vapor critical angle, the rays are not refracted, but totally reflected making 90° turn, thus reaching the nearest glass/gas-vapor interface again with angle of 45°. For same reason they will be reflected and turned by 90° towards the observer, to whom the zone will appear silver bright. Applications • Chemical and petrochemical industries. • Energy and power plant technology. • Feed water heaters or boilers • Oil and gas industries • Offshore exploration and drilling. • Pipeline compressor applications. • Pulp and paper. • Food and beverage. • Gas Plants.

Transparent Level Gauges Transparent level gauges are fitted with two plate transparent glasses between which the fluid is contained. The fluid level is indicated as the result of the different transparency of the two media and in some cases (for water steam), by conveying upwards on to the surface of separation (between liquid and gaseous substances) a source of light located at the back of the gauge, the rays of which are totally reflected down to the observer. The Transparent Level Gauge consists of a metal body, machined to have an internal chamber and one or more front windows (on each side of the gauge). On each window a special high resistance plate transparent glass is applied with sealing joint and metal cover plate hold by bolts and nuts. The chamber is connected to vessel with cross fittings and flanged, threaded or welded ends. Usually, between the instrument and its connecting ends, valves are fitted to allow shut-off piping and to disassemble the level gauge without having to empty the vessel. Drain valves can also be fitted to cross fittings of the device. To avoid leakage in case of glass breakage, safety ball-check device can be provided in cross-fittings or shut-off valves. This kind of indicator is suitable for water/steam. To protect glass surfaces from corrosive action of the process fluid, Transparent Level Gauges can be fitted with Mica shields or PFCE/PTFE/6 shields. This kind of indicator is suitable for colorless liquids and very fluid Applications • Chemical and petrochemical industries. • Energy and power plant technology. • Feed water heaters or boilers • Oil and gas industries • Offshore exploration and drilling. • Pipeline compressor applications. • Pulp and paper. • Food and beverage. • Gas Plants.

Tubular – Glass Level Gauges Tubular level gauges are simple in construction and reliable in operation for direct visual verification of level in vented or lightly pressurized tanks. The tubular communication bypass level gauge is mounted to the side of the vessel. If the media inside the vessel rises or falls the media is clearly visible through the hardened glass or industrial plastic (polycarbonate).

Bilge Level Switches Bilge level switches are a safety critical component for the detection of liquid in dead spaces, voids and sumps that are rarely visited or inspected by the crew. They need to be able to withstand years of installation in difficult environmental conditions, yet operate immediately and reliably to indicate rising liquid level, a leakage or flooding hazard. The switch is corrosion resistant stainless steel fully submersible construction with a hermetically sealed SPDT reed switch potted in epoxy. The switch is also designed with a manual lift test mechanism, which can be used to check switch operation. Application: The Bilge Switch is designed to be installed in ship’s bilges and tanks, industrial sumps and tanks where it would be bolted at the required alarm level. FEATURES • Compact design • Simple installation • Fully submersible 68 • Cable resistant to offshore application • Full SS316L (1.4404) • Marine approval • Simple installation • Test Lever

Model Reed probe transmitter VRP

A level measure system “REED PROBE” is based on the positive buoyancy principle that determines the movement of a float situated in a guide pipe linked with the controlled tank, inside the float there is a permanent magnetThe transducer is made with a sequenceof series resistances, supplied with constant voltage, inside a 316SS pipe: At every node of the series is connected the contact of a reed bulb. The floating magnet leads the contact closing of the nearest reed, allowing the readout of a frac-tion of supply voltage, proportional to the measures level. Accuracy of the system rely on the distance between reed bulbs; an excessive small distance between bulbs an excitation of more than one reed, and thus is a limit to the system precision. End of the reed probe is connected with an junction box with mounted a transmitter head (see below additional information). The probe is fastened to the bypass pipe. Standard material specifications Tube 14 x 2mm : SS316L (1.4404) Junction box : Anodized Aluminium Inner Encapsulation : Silicone Cable gland : M20x1,5mm Enclosure : IP67 Technical details Type : PR5343A Power supply : 8 – 35 VDS Output : 4 – 20 mA Connection : 2 Wires Accuracy : ± 5mm Max.
