The core GeoField application is the Map Viewer. This provides mapview and print facilities enabling fieldworkers to benefit from a richset of mapping data to support their on-site activities. Extending theMap Viewer, GeoField Redline enables features of interest to becaptured directly on the map, using free-hand, drafting tool andGPS-based feature placement. Digital images from an attachedcamera can be captured, marked-up and placed on the map,enhancing the richness of the information being collected.

To support your on-going data capture projects, GeoField Studio isa flexible forms designer that enables electronic forms to be createdfor use within GeoField Redline. This provides field users with a richdata capture tool where the attributes of features can be recordedat the critical point of creation, with real-time validation – data quality will no longer be an issue.

ScottishPower has been one of GeoField’sleading users since Sigma Seven was founded.Currently, over 800 workers within the utilitycompany use GeoField. The software suite’sflexibility means that it is deployed across manydiverse aspects of ScottishPower’s front-linebusiness areas from asset inspection toemergency response via vegetation management.

Initially, ScottishPower used GeoField to mobilisetheir Fujitsu IMS GIS. Recently, the companymigrated their GIS to an ESRI platform. BecauseGeoField can operate independently of the backoffice GIS and works with all existing GIS platforms, the transition was straight-forward and meant that the field workforce did not require any retraining. Thisproject was nominated for the AGI Innovation and Best Practice Award.

Counting on GeoField for QuotationsIndustry regulatorOfgem requiresScottishPower’sNew Connectionsbusiness to providequotations to theircustomers withindemandingtimescales.Previously, this wasdone using paper-based maps andfiles relating to thejob. After consulting

with Sigma Seven, ScottishPower implemented aGeoField Workflow application in their NewConnections business which now delivers on-the-spot job estimates and quotations to over 2500customers a month. Working directly on the map,ScottishPower’s estimators are able to lay out andcost jobs using current network data and canwork with customers on site to agree quotes.Integrated with the back-office work managementand finance applications, the GeoField Workflowapplication allows all aspects of the quotation tobe completed on site during the initial visit. This has eliminated paper in the process andgreatly improved estimator productivity as well as Guaranteed Standards compliance.

Symbion Powerspecialise in helicopterinspections for the utilityand transportationindustries. UsingGeoField, they havereplaced the time –consuming process ofpreparing and executinginspections usingtraditional paper maps

and plans. Now they can quickly build aninspection package with GeoField Studio to suita client’s specific requirements and improve theservice they can offer by synchronising directlywith the customer’s existing GIS, assetmanagement and workflow systems. ‘Working closely with Sigma Seven hasenabled us to develop a solution whichenhances our service to the customer,’ saysAdam Crick, General Manager of SymbionPower. ‘We now have a solution that is easierto use and more efficient than paper maps andwhich also greatly improves the data flowbetween ourselves and our clients.’
