DESIGN INSPIRATION“Counterpane” is a term for coverlet; the word is derived from an old French phrase that literally meant “embroidered quilt”. This casual linen fabric is embroidered in a simple diamond stitch to givte it a quilted look, and is composed of contrasting shades of linen and cotton on each side for FULL REVERSIBILITY. It is ideal for coverlet applications as its name suggests, but also lends a modern and relaxed look to upholstered chairs, headboards and even unlined curtains and shades. DESIGN INSPIRATIONZardozi is a Persian word that literally means “sewing with gold string”, and is the term used for the metal embroidery that embellished the attire of seventeenth century royals in India. Our modern-day tape features hand beading and hand embroidery that is composed in a scroll pattern of delicate metallic yarns and beads against soft velvet tape. Its highly decorative look adds an antique jewelry-like effect to pillows, roman shades, curtain edges and upholstery.

This sophisticated collection of wallcoverings features handcrafted texture for the modern interior. Glamorous metallic effects blend with raised patterns, dragged strié effects and crackle texture, in a neutral-and-nature inspired palette that is a perfect backdrop to Modern Luxury fabrics and trimmings.

These wallcoverings are durable and practical as well, suitable for use in residential and high-end hospitality projects.

HANDCRAFTED

CHECK BEFORE CUTTINGBefore cutting and hanging, check pattern name and number to match product(s) ordered. NO CREDIT for labor charges will be allowed for cutting or hanging wrong colorways or patterns. Be sure that there is sufficient material to complete the job. Should you have any questions, contact Scalamandré Customer Service before proceeding. NO RETURNS will be accepted after the material is cut.

WALL PREPARATIONPrevious wallcovering must be removed. Walls must be structurally sound, dry, sealed and clean prior to installation. Wall surfaces should be free from defects and imperfections that could show through the finished covered surface. Walls should be smooth and clean and prepared with a latex primer or wall prep. Walls should be washed with detergent or bleach to kill any bacteria that could cause mildew. New construction may have lime which should be neutralized with a coating of zinc sulfate (one pound to one gallon of water) and allowed to dry completely.

TRIMMINGHandcrafted wallcoverings are usually cut into strips and dry trimmed. Do not double cut. Take care to trim accurately. Heavy texture might show through as white when trimmed. Be sure edges are even before installation. Each shipment contains bolts marked with consecutive numbers. This is the order in which the wallcovering was produced, hence, this is the order in which the bolts must be hung. Example: from bolt 1, hang the first strip, then hang the second strip from bolt 1, then the third strip from bolt 1, etc. Continue with this same procedure for the remaining bolts.

ADHESIVE You MUST use a quality grade heavy-duty premixed clear vinyl non-staining adhesive with a low water content. Do not dilute. Using another type of adhesive will be solely at the risk of the installer. Wallcovering is not strippable or peelable. Prepare walls using strippable adhesive if wallcovering is to be removed at a later date. Apply an even coat of adhesive to the back of the wall covering using a soft nap roller. Allow the adhesive to become tacky. Book product for at least 20 minutes. (Please be advised that different sub-straights may need slightly more or slightly less booking time to achieve the proper tack.) Additionally, if required, pre-paste the wall, allow wall to tack and then apply strip. Completely clean adhesive off the surface after each strip is hung. Any adhesive left on the surface can cause flaking. When removing paste from the surface, try to avoid excessive rubbing or pressure. Use a mild soap or detergent to clean the wallcovering.

TEST HANGING Test hang three panels and carefully review materials and application. If satisfactory, continue the installation. If not, contact your Wallcoverings representative or customer service.

INSTALLATION Scalamandré assumes no responsibility for the installation of material beyond three panels, nor are we responsible for labor. Wallcovering should be installed by experienced workers and contractors in strict accordance with these instructions. Material must be dry table trimmed. DO NOT DOUBLE CUT. Apply material to wall using a soft brush, plastic smoother, or drywall blade wrapped with a soft cloth to lay out the material. When smoothing, work from the center out to the edges. To avoid trapping air bubbles, use an oval seam roller to butt seams. Wash smoothing brush and seam roller often, as an accumulation of paste on tools may mark or scratch the material. Completely clean adhesive off the surface after each strip is hung. Wash seams with a damp sponge and clean warm water. Change rinse water often. Any adhesive left on the surface can cause flaking. Dry carefully with a soft cloth or chamois.

MAINTENANCE Stains should be removed immediately – wipe-off with a clean sponge or rag (slightly damp). Use a mild detergent to clean the wallcovering. Do not soak. Avoid excess rubbing or pressure so as to not damage the finish.

MODERN LUXURY WALLCOVERINGSModern Luxury wallcoverings are all handcrafted and variations should be expected throughout

the roll. Although extreme care is taken during manufacturing, variations in shade and texture are to be expected. Final inspections are the responsibility of the user. We will not accept any claims for cut merchandise or labor, even if the wallcovering is defective. The installer should step back

and examine the wallcovering after every few strips to ensure the desired effect is achieved.

MODERN LUXURY WALLCOVERINGS

GENERAL INFORMATION• Each order is made to order in the quantity needed. There is a 30 yard

minimum for all orders, but can be ordered in 1 yard increments beyond the 30 yard minimum.

• Custom colors can be requested for a 30 yard minimum. Fabric or paintswatches can be matched or coordinated with, and a strike-off will be made for approval prior to production.

• Yardage requirements should be carefully measured and ordered, as extra material is not produced for each order. The 30 yard minimum will need to be met for any additional yardage.

• Each order arrives with hanging instructions (also included in this manual) and are labeled with a bolt number and hanging sequence thatmust be adhered to.

• All wallcovering orders arrive with protective wax paper within the bolt. It is very important to keep the wax paper intact until the product is ready for installation.

• All wallcoverings in the collection are untrimmed and must be trimmed prior to installation. They will be either 27” or 28” wide depending on the pattern.

• Bolts are made in 15-25 yard lengths. If specific bolt sizes are needed for an installation, please specifically request the bolt sizes needed and confirm that the required sizes can be produced.

• All wallcoverings in the collection are cleanable with a light sponge and mild soap and water. Abrasive materials and chemical cleaners should not be used as they may affect the appearance of the wallcovering.

• Substrate is a mylar surface with a nonwoven backing. Textures are all water based and low VOC. The wallcoverings may be applied by pasting the wall and hanging directly. A light layer of paste can also be applied to the back of the wallcovering.

• All wallcoverings in the collection are ASTM E-84 Class A fired rated and are suitable for commercial use. A certificate is available upon request.
