• Floor coveringConcrete/tiles/in-situ (e.g. epoxy resin) or flexible sheet (e.g. vinyl).
• Membrane typeWhere required liquid or dry membrane application will determine the choice of lower part.
Once the channel type has been determined choosing the width, outlet dimension, length, depth, type of fixing, options, etc generates the unique product code.
Please refer to the explanation of the product code system on the inside of the back cover.
Introduction to BLÜCHER Channel®
Contained within this product catalogue are the various components that combine to provide the BLÜCHER standard floor drainage channel programme. Developed on the basis of 35 years experience in the production of stainless steel floor drainage solutions BLÜCHER has incorporated the very best features from within the purpose made channel programme to provide an easy to use, high performance off the shelf solution.
The aim in developing BLÜCHER Channel® has been to provide our customer with easier selection, faster delivery and competitive prices combined with optimum quality and corrosion resistance. Being produced largely from 2mm thick stainless steel material the modular BLÜCHER Channel® system also provides the highest levels of stability and resistance to deformation when exposed to high loads. In addition, the extremely smooth surface finish makes the channel system hygienic and easy to clean.
Custom solutionsIn the event you are unable to satisfy your specific application requirement from within the standard BLÜCHER Channel® programme please do not hesitate to contact our technical services department for advice and support.
Example of product code definition
The right solutionThe following points should be considered when selecting a channel system:
• Water load - continuous water flow- intermittent discharge- washdownIt is important to ensure the lower part and trap arrangement has adequate flow capacity for the application.
• Waste products Where possible a grate should be chosen which permits pieces of waste to pass through for collection in a filter basket.• Loading
Can influence the choice of channel width as well as deter mining the most appropriate grating for the application.
• Stainless steel gradeAISI 304 (material no. 1.4301) for standard applications or AISI 316 L (material no. 1.4404) for aggressive / corrosive applications.

Type 671 Multi
Multichannel is made in a standard width of 77 mm internal frame dimension (B).
The benefit of the outlet box is that at 77 mm (B) it is possible to combine the channel with lower parts, removable water trap, ‘P’ trap, filter basket and sand/silt bucket.
Furthermore lengths of up to 14 metres are achievable with the shallowest of invert levels making Multichannel an excellent solution where depth is restricted.
A range of gratings is available to suit the varying load and flow requirements - see page 37.
Application areas:• For discharge directly into the channel• For waste water with solids present• Low floor constructions – the reduced channel
invert means that Multichannel can be installed within restricted floor spaces
• Kitchens, shower areas, food & beverage production, chemical plants, swimming pools, breakwaters

Slot channel requires no grating but instead has a 20 mm aperture along the channel length, making it the most cost effective solution in the modular range. The profile shape has been developed to make it robust, hygienic and most suitable for applications where wastewater discharges carry little or no solid matter.
A range of gratings is available for the Outlet box- see page 37.
Application areas:• As a breakwater to separate designated wet and
dry areas• Washdown areas where wastewater contains low
solid content• Low floor constructions – the reduced channel
invert means that Slot channel can be installed within restricted floor spaces
• Shower areas, beverage production, chemical plants, swimming pools, breakwaters

67X X X XXX-XX X X
Fixing typeThe connection between concrete and channel is particularly important for channelsexposed to heavy loadings and temperature differences. Two options are available toprotect the channel from the effect of these factors.
Stabiliser angle (Fixing type A)The stabiliser angle is longitudinally welded to the channel wall thus supporting the channel and in contact with the concrete throughout the channel’s length. The stabiliser angle is therefore recommended for use where the channel is subjected to heavy wheel loadings. Adjustable legs and anchor tangs can also be added to the stabiliser angle.
Anchor tang (Fixing type B) Anchor tangs are positioned every 500 mm along the channel wall and should be bent out 90˚ before casting. Anchor tangs are generallysuitable where the channel is not subjected to excessive weight or thermal loadings (e.g.medium/light industrial). Adjustable legs can be added to the anchor tangs.
Anchor tangStabiliser angle
A range of options as follows is available for the standard channel system:
An S is added after the
product code for orders
in AISI 316 L quality.
Adjustable leg (product code 670.000.001) can be added to the stabiliser angle and anchor for use in adjusting the channel to the required finished level before casting. Loose anchor tangs (product code 670.000.002) for installation on site can also be supplied for use with the stabiliser angle - see page 41.

Edge infill and protective strip
Edge infill – For optimum channel strength it is important that the channel is properly embedded in concrete. This is particularly notable with regards to the underside of the channel edge profile. Whilst this can be filled on site it is also possible to have the filling carried out under factory conditions as part of the production process. In addition to providing greater rigidity to the channel, the edge infill also prevents bacteria growth in any voids remaining.
Protective strip – The edge profile can be supplied with a protective strip which adheres lightly and is easily removed. This is to protect the edge profile during installation leaving a perfect visible edge once the installation is complete.

All BLÜCHER channels with Ø 160 mm outlet can be combined with either horizontal or vertical outlet lower parts. This permits installation of a removable water trap and filter basket or sand/silt bucket. In addition the lower part provides height adjustment of 60 mm making it easier to set the channel to the required finished floor level.
Where connection to a damp proof membrane is required there are also lower parts which are suitable for use with either liquid or dry membranes.
The capacity specified for the lower parts within the table below includes the removable water trap.
Lower parts can be divided into three groups:
1. Lower parts without membrane flange.2. Lower parts with flange for liquid membrane3. Lower parts with flange for dry membrane

Description of load classes:Load classes. – The grating’s load class can be specified under various standards and testing methods. The following are relevant to BLÜCHER’s specification of load classes:
DIN 19 599: Gullies and manhole tops for use in buildings.
The grating is tested with a piston, the size of which depends on the grating width (defined as the largest free opening in the outlet/channel). The free opening is the diameter of the largest circle which can exist between the grating supports. As the grating is subjected to various piston sizes, it is not always possible to compare the various widths (e.g. a grating with a width of 300 mm can be in a higher load class than a grating with a width of 200 mm).
The maximum permitted deflection similarly depends on the free opening and is set at 2/500 of the area of the free opening to a maximum of 2 mm.
The specified loading in kg for each grating corresponds to the max. loading under the DIN standard.
Description of loading classes:K(K300) The grating is loaded with 2/3 of 300 kg (200 kg)
five times, with the pressure maintained for 5 min. on the final occasion. The deflection is then measured.
Finally the grating is loaded with 300 kg. There is no deflection standard on this occasion but the grating must not break and should still be removable.
L(L1500) The grating is loaded with 2/3 of 1500 kg (1000 kg) five times, with the pressure maintained for 5 min. on the final occasion. The deflection is then measured.
Finally the grating is loaded with 1500 kg. There is no deflection standard on this occasion
but the grating must not break and should still be removable.
M(M12500)The grating is loaded with 2/3 of 12500 kg (8333 kg) five times, with the pressure maintained for 5 min. on the final occasion. The deflection is then measured.
Finally the grating is loaded with 12500 kg. There is no deflection standard on this occasion
but the grating must not break and should still be removable.
Barefoot area – e.g. shower areas, changing rooms
Pedestrian traffic – e.g. kitchens, supermarkets
Pallet trucks, trolleys – e.g. light industry
Delivery vans, lorries – e.g. industry, factories
Fork-lift trucks – e.g. heavy industry.
The following classifications are designed to give a simplified indication as to the suitability of the gratings in service:

Anchor tang
Anchor tangs are added to stabiliser angles in particular where there are high thermal loads.
The anchor tangs are available as individual extras and are easily fitted to the stabiliser angle’s slots.
Recommended number per channel:Two per 500 mm (min. four).
Adjustable legs can be added to either anchor tangs or stabiliser angles and consist of a 150 mm long Ø8 mm threaded rod with two nuts used for height adjustment and fixing the leg to the channel. The threaded rod is fixed to a slotted foot plate for fixing to the substructure and is designed to assist in adjusting the channel to the required finished level and to prevent the channel from ‘floating’ during casting in concrete.
Adjustable legs are available as individual extras.
Recommended number per channel:Two per 1000 mm (min. four).

Floor drainage methods
Choice of channel or industrial drainTo choose between a channel and a floor drain it is necessary to consider the room’s use and design. For example the number and location of discharge units, frequency of discharge, the volume of water, the size of the room and the nature of the traffic in the room. The following factors indicate that channels should be considered:
Calculation of channel lengthrelative to room sizeWhere there are no special circumstances to be taken intoaccount, the diagrams below can be used as a guide for establishing the correct location and design of channels so that a constant fall is achieved to the drainage channel.
• Many discharge units and runoff water. It is possible to install a channel so that water does not cover the entire floor and cause a safety hazard.
• Large floor areas. Installing a channel in a large room allows the floor to be laid with less fall.
• Large quantities of surface water. The water content of a large channel acts as a buffer and reduces slip hazards.
• Breakwater. A channel in a door opening will isolate designated wet and dry areas.
As most floors with channels are laid to falls, accountmust be taken at the planning stage to ensure the fall (A)does not exceed 1-2% (depending on floor type).

CapacityThe channel’s capacity depends on channel type/size andoutlet type/dimensions.
Where discharge is intermittent the channel’s water content can be taken into account.
For continuous flow, only the outlet’s flow rate should be considered.
The channel’s water content is given in the table underthe individual channel lengths and is calculated for a waterlevel 5 mm below the channel’s top edge. See examplebelow.

Cross-bars
Material quality • All channels are made in either AISI 304 (material no. 1.4301) or AISI 316 L (material no. 1.4404) steel quality.
An S is added after the product code for orders in AISI 316 L quality.• All channels are chemically pickled and passivated to provide a clean hygienic surface finish.
Material thickness • Channels for concrete, in-situ or tiled floors: 2 mm, ensuring the channel can
be used where there are heavy loads.• Channels for sheet vinyl floorcovering: 1.5 mm – vinyl covered floors are
not exposed to heavy loads.
Frame width• The frame width is 20 mm; outer height is 12 mm.
Grating support• 26 mm shoulder depth ensures that 25 mm gratings do not protrude above the channel.• 15 mm shoulder width ensures that there is adequate support for the various grating
types. Keeping this shoulder to a minimum is important for hygiene reasons toprevent bacteria growth on the horizontal surface.
Cross-bars• 8 x 20 mm flat bar placed 1/1000 mm in channels.• Ø 8 mm round bar steel is placed 1/500 mm in slot channels. Cross-bars reinforce the channel and ensure that it is not pressed together
during embedding in concrete. Cross-bars also ensure that the grates arenot displaced longitudinally.
Channel widths• Gratings with widths of:
075 mm = total channel width 117 mm (A) 145 mm = total channel width 187 mm (A) 195 mm = total channel width 237 mm (A) 295 mm = total channel width 337 mm (A) 395 mm = total channel width 437 mm (A)
48 mm is added to dimension (A) for vinyl channels.
• Slot channels The aperture is 20 mm permitting relatively small wheels
to run over the channel.

Longitudinal fall• In Multichannel and Slot channels the longitudinal fall is
0.5-0.6%; for all other channel types the fall is 1%.
Cross fall • Together with the longitudinal fall, cross fall ensures that
the waste water and solids flow to the outlet without leaving deposits. The cross fall corresponds to an angle of 130° in Slot channels and 150-170° for all other channel types.
Flanged joint• Channels with a total length exceeding 6 metres are made in
two or three sections which can be bolted together with flanged joints. The flanges are 5 mm thick and finish flush with all internal surfaces. One of the two mating flanges is supplied with a 2 mm thick EPDM seal.
• The flanges are tightened (30 Nm) together with the Ø8 mm nuts and bolts supplied.
• After jointing, it may be necessary to cut away any excess seal inside the channel. This can be done with a sharp thin bladed knife. Approx. 2 mm of the seal will remain visible after making a flanged joint. Each flange protrudes 34mm from the channel bottom.
• The flanged joint is labelled with an “F” in the channel’sschematic diagram.
Outlet• Channels are provided with either a plain spigot outlet or
an outlet box. The outlet fits either directly into the interconnecting pipework or into an adjustable lower part in which a removable water trap and filter basket can be mounted.
