LIVING BY THE BOOK: THE ART AND SCIENCE OF READING THE BIBLE by Howard G. Hendricks
For every person who draws strength and direction from the Bible, there are many more who struggle with it. Some call it a long book with fine print and obscure meaning. Some call it a mystery, a chore to read, or an undecipherable puzzle.
The good news is you can easily solve this problem. With over 300,000 sold, this revised and expanded edition of Living by the Book will remove the barriers that keep Scripture from transforming your life. In a simple, step-by-step fashion, the authors explain how to glean truth from Scripture. It is practical, readable, and applicable. By following its easy-to-apply principles, you'll soon find yourself drawing great nourishment from the Word—and enjoying the process! The Living by the Book Workbook is the perfect compliment to provide practical application of lessons .

“A Love Unequaled” by
Sharon Reidenbach
“In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was
God.” (John 1:14, NKJV)
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)
In the beginning, God the Father — God the Son [the Word] and God the Holy Ghost said,
“Let’s make man in our image for fellowship, to live in this beautiful world.
(Genesis 1:26). We’ll provide all kinds of habitation, animals, flying and sea creatures,
and a mate to enjoy our perfect garden. Then we’ll bestow our ultimate gift, ‘free-will.’
But man misused this gift and sinned. He desired equality with God and disobeyed the
one command, “Do not eat from the Tree of Life.” The Trinity mourned, banishing him
from the garden forever.
In the beginning, through mercy, the Three-In-One chose, even then, to give man hope:
“So the Lord God said to the serpent [the garden’s tempter], ‘And I will put enmity
between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your
head, and you shall bruise His heel’.” (Genesis3: 15)
In the beginning however, this promise came with an unfathomable price . . . a sacrifice
to atone the debt of sin. The one called The Son of God humbled Himself. He took on
human form and was called the Son of Man—signifying forever, His humanity. “And as a
root out of dry ground, He has no form or comeliness; and when we see Him, there is no
beauty that we should desire Him.” (Isaiah 53: 2) “The Word became flesh and took up
residence among us.” (John 1:14) He’d experience pain, sorrow, temptation, heartache;
separating Himself from His Father as heard from the cross when He died for our sins.
“My God, My God why have You forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46)
In the beginning, Christ, the Word, knew He’d never return to His original, spiritual
form. “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ
Jesus.” (1 Timothy 2:6) “And in the midst of the seven lamp stands One like the Son of
Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden
band.” (Revelation 1:13) He gave His total being for us. One day those who claimed Christ
as Savior for sin, will see and touch His nail-pierced hands, His scarred back from
multiple lashings laced with nails and bits of iron, and the slash in His side.
In the beginning, “God proved His own love for us in that while we were still sinners
Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) . . . restored, whole, and complete to the Father.
A Love Unequaled.
