Monitoring your Optical Networks
The need for remote channel monitoring
Site visits are expensive and time consuming.
For remote sites with no personnel present, when a resource fails is it the resource or the infrastructure? With OCM the network monitoring team can come to a determination within a couple of minutes.
Having the optical data is valuable both for networks you own or for resources you lease – you have empirical data to give the operator/maintenance company.
OCM also prevents wasted site visits where records may not be 100% accurate
OCM can be used both for provisioning and troubleshooting purposes
OCM can be integrated into your management system and alarm when the optical characteristics of a given channel change.
OCM currently monitors the full DWDM channel range with CWDM monitoring scheduled for Q1 2020.
Use Case – DWDM Optical Channel line Monitoring

Optical Channel Monitor will provide Optical Channel Power and OSNR
Use at HeadEnd and Remote Hub sites
Monitoring results: *Central wavelength, Total power, Ch. Power, and OSNR *Users can config a Customer Tag for each wavelength *Independent alarm threshold/processing for each wavelength
