Lighting System Improvement will significantly reduce the energy use associated with lighting a building or area. The estimated life span of this practice is at least 10 years. The life of the practice can be assured and usually increased by developing and carrying out a good operation and maintenance program. This practice will require you to perform periodic operation and maintenance to maintain satisfactory performance. The following are some recommendations to help you develop a good operation and maintenance program. MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST Thoroughly clean lighting components at least once a year. Dust and dirt buildup can cause lights to overheat and fail prematurely and possibly cause a fire hazard. Replace burned out bulbs promptly. Additionally, bulbs will dim over time. Replace old bulbs when their light output falls to an unacceptable level. Properly dispose of replaced bulbs. Test, adjust, or replace timers, sensors, switches and other control devices as needed for proper operation. Remember to reset timers after power failures. Protect components from damage by livestock, insects, vermin, and equipment. Repair any damage promptly. Hire or consult an electrician if needed. Clean lamps, fixtures, and room surfaces regularly to ensure a high quality light environment is maintained. Regularly inspect fixtures, controls, wiring, and other associated components. Promptly repair or replace any damaged system components. Additional Operation and Maintenance Requirements Specific to this Plan:
