Publishers Notes By Raf Viniard

As of this writing, only 44 days until bear season and 40 days until turkey season opens, not that I am still counting. I decided to change things up with this first March issue. Last weekend we had an awesome event that just needed to be addressed. We love covering local NW Montana events. Watching the local natives having fun, winning prizes and socializing is always an opportunity we like to cover. Most events are for one cause or another but the locals generosity always amazes me. Call us if you have an event and Montana Woods n Water will cover it. It felt good having last week off from publishing but it was packed with planning and coordinating for the Camo Sweetheart Ball. It all came together quite nicely and everyone had a good time and walked away with something, a prize and a memory. Plus, we raised some much needed funding for the Sanders County Search & Rescue. After a light snow today the sun popped back out and quickly started returning us to the thought that Spring is just around the corner. I am already seeing a green tint to some of the southern slopes. I am already receiving reports of bears coming out of hibernation. Bear hunters are getting the tickle to get their rifles and gear in order. Turkey hunters are scoping out the flocks and fishermen are already testing the water and the bite. Montana sportsmen can only be couped up so long and these recent sunny days get folks stirring about in anticipation of the beautiful Montana spring hunting and fishing that awaits us. Now if only those spring cleaning chores don’t get in the way. Keep sending us your pictures and stories. We thank you for your continued support. Please support our advertisers and the donors to the Camo Sweetheart Ball. We will return to normal regular publication Thursday ( 5 March).

The event was held at Lakeside Resort & Motel, Trout Creek Motel. Attendees were from both ends of Sanders County and beyond. The

event was more geared to the ladies in our lives and to provide them with a night out of candlelit dinner, fresh flowers, balloons, a good

meal, adult beverages and plenty of dancing music. To get the guys on board with this concept, we had to bribe them with a chance to

win a gun or two and that they could wear a camo shirt but it had to be with a tie. I could go on and on about how much fun everyone

had but I think a few pictures will tell the story better than I. We can’t wait until next year! All photos furnished by RTK Photography.

Some Mom’s just can’t get a break, but this is one young “fellar” was just a joy to have hang out with us at the

ball. Checkout Nathaniel’s camo shirt and tie. This boy knows how to dress for the occasion. Next year we have

to find him a date. His Dad shown to the right took the camo requirement very literally...check out his tie...a belt

of 7.62 ammo. I believe this boy smoked all of us as the most handsome. Nathaniel obviously gets his good looks

and class from his Mom, Linda Matsumi. Mom, that boy needs a camo Sippy cup or coozy!

The chance at winning a gun may have been used to bribe the guys but the “Best Tie” contest challenge did not go

unheeded. Raf Viniard solicits the audience for their applause as to which one as these three finalist square off for

best tie. Left to right: Eric Pfleger (7.62 ammo belt tie), Mike Bedick, President SCSAR (we are still trying to figure it

out...something furry) and George Nass (At least a half a pheasant). George Nass took the title...can he hold on to it

next year?

Even though we bribed the guys with guns and allowed them to wear camo to get them there, Lark Chadwick took home the top gun. They had four guns to choose from. Lark sent her husband to the gun giveaway table to chose her gun for her. Lark Chadwick is now the proud owner of a Ruger .308. Pictured below is Caleb Wengerd, owner of Big Bull Sports delivering her prize.

Nice Hats!

Tony & Brenda Rebo won the Ruger 10-22 with a laminated stock. I

noticed Tony is the one that came up and got the rifle! Brenda can he keep

it? However, Tony has yet to appear at Big Bull Sports to claim his prize.

Tony if you are too busy fishing...just send Brenda!

Factoid: The day of the Camo Sweetheart Ball, Tony and his wife Brenda

of Libby Montana stopped along the roads and fished their way to the ball.

Now that is two dedicated fisherman.

The 1st Annual Camo Sweetheart Ball was organized by Montana Woods N Water to help raise money for the

Sanders County Search & Rescue (SAR). This event would not have been possible without our sponsors and all the

hard work by the committee members and those selling tickets. Thank you ladies for all the hard work and we look

forward to doing it again next year. A portion of the money raised goes directly to the Sanders County Search &

Rescue to facilitate equipment and additional training to assist not only Sanders County but the surrounding counties

when called upon to do so.

From now until end May we will be raffling off three more firearms to help raise money for the SAR. Contact

Montana Woods N Water, Big Bull Sports or a SAR member to purchase a $20.00 raffle ticket. Only 100 tickets are

sold for each firearm. Your continued support is greatly appreciated. Upcoming firearms.
