As we wrap up 2019 during this holiday season,
if we can try to be kinder, a little more
understanding, show a little more compassion
towards our fellow man, and just breathe, our
world and our season should be brighter. This
season is more about what we give than what we
receive because it is true that the more you give
the more you get back. Wishing all of you the
merriest of Holidays!

Ballroom Dance ~ Viennese Waltz
The Viennese Waltz was once considered a court
dance by the elite of Austria. It is the oldest form
of waltz having first come about in the early
1800’s. Advantages of learning this Austrian
Waltz are the challenges for students to enhance
American Waltz with more poise, elegant posture
and balance. Our ballroom dance teacher Stan
“The Dance Man” will demonstrate the proper
technique for this classy dance. No partner is

Fit Tip Holiday Havoc!
Even if you have superhuman willpower, the holidays are difficult
for everyone. Staying on track can seem so daunting, you feel like
swan-diving into the eggnog and sending your sensible routine into
hibernation until the New Year. As we all know, excess pounds don't
disappear along with the decorations. Nobody wants to start the
New Year in the hole, body-wise. Here are some ways to enjoy the
holidays without throwing away your healthy habits. Be picky!
Peruse the buffet before you load
your plate. If you pick what you
really want in moderation, you'll
stop those troublesome cravings.
Willpower is like a muscle: Work it
and you get stronger. Be sure to
eat your three squares and a couple
of snacks like fruits, veggies, whole
grains, and lean protein. Don’t
swear off desserts. Practice the 3
bite rule to keep your sweet tooth
in check. You'll get that amazing
first taste, a satisfying middle one,
and then a lingering third bite.
Avoid morning after foods. Send
guests home with leftovers. Out of
sight, out of mind! Brew a pot of
peppermint tea. Research shows
peppermint can help calm stomach
muscles and reduce gas. Chew
Slowly. Eating fast is a quick
recipe for an expanded waistline.
Air swallowed will cause bloating.
Exercise with a supportive friend.
Our Wellness Center is open to
your 35 years and older friends and
family. New Year, New You!

party at Olivedale. December is also when the
bulk of the comfort quilts are distributed to various
community groups. We are looking forward to the
new year for opportunities to learn and practice
new quilting techniques. Quilters of all levels are
welcome to join our group. We gather on
Thursdays at 9:00a.
Rambling Designers Garden Club
The Rambling Designers Garden Club will have
their annual Christmas luncheon at 12:00p on
Tuesday, December 3 at Olivedale. Blue Moon
Catering will provide their usual delicious food.
Spouses are welcome. Members who have a
“Secret Friend” should bring a gift for your friend
and reveal your identity inside the gift. Those who
wish to participate in the Crazy Santa game should
bring a wrapped gift for the game (suggested value
around $10). Members who plan to attend the
luncheon should have their reservations to Mike
Stasiak by November 26.
Red Glad Hatters
The Red Glad Hatters will have their annual
Christmas luncheon on Friday, December 13 at
12:00p at the Rising House, 131 North High St.
Lancaster. Please make your reservations no later
than December 6 to your hostesses, Clara Bierly or
Jeanie Hughes. We are blessed to share this
magical time of the season as we end another
wonderful year as Red Hat Sisters. We will be
having a $10 gift exchange for those who would
like to participate. Our Christmas food pantry
drive will continue and any canned goods you wish
to donate will be appreciated.
Walkers Club
Join us Wednesday, December 4 for a hike at
Slate Run Farm. We will meet at Olivedale at
10:15a for a 10:30a departure. On Wednesday,
December 18, we will meet at Olivedale at 10:15a
for an 10:30a departure to Liebs Island bike path
trailhead at Buckeye Lake. Call 740-818-3493, if
you have questions.
Rummikub
Come join us for Rummikub on Mondays at
12:30p. If you play 500 Rummi with cards it is
the same but we play with tiles.
The “Bookies”
Join the Bookies on Tuesday, December 17 at
1:00p. We will discuss “Around the Next Corner”
by Elizabeth Wrenn. Housewife Deena loves her
family but is so unappreciated. For herself, she
volunteers to raise a pup as a seeing-eye-dog. This
small act transforms her world. Get your copy at
the Information Desk, Fairfield County District
Library. Call Barb Ramsey for more information
at 740-653-3897.
Coin Club
The Coin Club will meet on Tuesday, December
10 at 3:00p. Our topic for discussion and show and
tell will be “Collecting Silver and Clad Dimes”.
Coin minted up to 1964 were silver dimes with a
90% silver content. Coins minted from 1965 to
date are clad coins except for some special silver
proof coins issued annually by the U.S. Mint.
Collector dimes include Half Dimes, Bust Dimes,
Seated Liberty Dimes, Barber Dimes, Mercury
Dimes and Roosevelt Dimes. Visitors are always
welcome to learn more about coin collecting or to
have their questions answered. Contact Steve at
740-654-8831 for further information about the
club or coins.
Military Veterans of Olivedale
