Chief or reporting individual: please read the following

Did you know that you can report wildfires, mutual aid for wildfires and “no response” online?

Go to: nfsdata.unl.edu/wildfire/loginwildfire.asp

Select your department from the drop down menu, and your password is the name of the county where the department is located. The first letter of the password/county name is capitalized.

Column by Column Instructions for Reporting Date/Time: Enter date of wildfire response, dispatch time and return time (in military or civilian time).

Mutual Aid: If you are reporting a wildfire mutual aid call where you gave aid to another department, please write in the name of the department you helped. For this type of response you don’t need to complete all the columns. Only complete the following columns: Date/Time, Mutual Aid to, People and Apparatus. These are marked by an asterisk* on the report sheet.

Cause: Enter the cause of the wildfire.

Acres Burned: Enter the number of acres burned for grass, forest and/or crops. If crops were burned, please write in the type of crop involved. Minimum reported acre(s) measurement must be .01.

Dollars: Enter the value of crops or improvements destroyed by wildfire.

People: Enter the number of firefighters from your department who responded to the wildfire in the first column. Enter the number of civilians and firefighters (ff’s) injured while on the scene of the wildfire in the second column. Enter the number of civilian and/or firefighter’s (ff’s) fatalities in the third column.

Apparatus: Enter the number of grass rigs, pumpers and/or tankers under the appropriate column heading.

Structures: Enter the number of structures threatened by the fire - choose the appropriate column (either homes or other structures). Next, enter the number of structures destroyed by the fire - choose the appropriate column (either homes or other structures).

Location: Enter the fire’s approximate location in decimal degrees accurate to 3 decimal places. For example: in the Latitude column: 42.479 or in the Longitude column: 101.384. Exact values can be obtained by a GPS unit or Latitude and Longitude can be estimated from a map.

Ownership Class: In this column enter P for Private, F for Federal, or S for State.

The information you supply on these wildfire report cards is vitally important to the fire protection program of the Nebraska Forest Service. It is useful for fire prevention programming, pre-suppression planning, legislation and educational programs.

On the attached, self-addressed, return card, please list each wildfire on one line. If you’re in doubt about how to fill out a certain part of the report, write your question on the report card along with your phone number, and we will call you with the answer. Please try to supply all the information requested on the card. Remember, your best judgment will provide us with better information than our guess when you leave a column blank.
