Many people want an LMS like this:
• A private, secure place• Replicate/enforce traditional roles• Students seen as needing to gain
competencies and knowedge• Content is structured and “dumped”
on the students to be absorbed• Content is “pumped” out of the
students again and competencies assessed via Quizzes

But an LMS can also be like this:• A focussed community of practitioners• Everyone is a teacher and learner• Connected activities that use different
strategies to gather data, reuse it, analyse it, practice skills and so on.
• Integration with the rest of the internet• Content is gathered/produced by
the students continuously • Assessment takes place continuously
in a number of ways (everything is assessable), by all participants
