Nobles,

We are at the half way point. I hope the year has continued to progress well for ev-eryone. The ceremonial was a huge hit. We brought in 29 new Nobles that day! And once again the passport party turned out fantastic. The Mother’s day brunch was a wonderful day. A tip of the Fez to Jack and Gail Melton for such a wonderful event for Mom! Those centerpieces Gail made were absolutely amazing. The Ainad parade was rain free so that was great for us to enjoy the large crowds of people. It always amazes me just how many people come out to support the Shriners and what we do. We also made $4,700 at the Lincoln Driven to Give event. A big thank you to John Tremblay for securing this easy fundraiser!

June brought some more action. We had the Horse Hooky for the guys and prospec-tive candidates. The guys seemed to enjoy it a ton and I had several requests to do it again. Unfortunately that will have to wait until next year. I do want to apologize to the guys that went for the deba-cle with my son. A phone call at 4:30 that day resulted in a detour which in retrospect was unfair to everyone else. I do apologize to each of you that went for the inconvenience. The Potentate’s trip went great. We only had a few hiccups with a lost wheel chair and Dougal taking a spill. Dougal had us worried but he pulled through just fine. Next time just tell us when you need more attention Dougal! Cuba was very interesting. I think all of us that went learned a lot. Our leadership can have its differences but at the end of the day people are people and are inherently good. The people of Cuba were very welcoming and I was left with the impression that it would be in the best interest of everyone to just get along. The good news is that no one joined the communist party while we were there as it was evident that system is flawed. I did for the sake of Moolah represent our Temple in the belly flop contest and the sex-iest man contest on the ship during our day at sea. Unfortunately I did not win but finished a respectable 4th and 3rd respectively. The ice cream social has not happened yet but I am sure it went well. I hope those that attended had a great time to cap off the month of June.

PSA1: PLEASE GET YOUR CIRCUS TICKETS AND MONEY TURNED IN ASAP!PSA2: PLEASE SELL THE RAFFLE TICKETS MAILED TO YOU!

Our membership efforts continue to go gangbusters. Our special restoration promotion did great. As of this writing we restored 42 Nobles and that does not include the last few days of the promotion.

So, what does July bring? We have the Imperial session in mid-July and we have won a few awards to my knowledge. We won the silver membership award and because of everyone’s hard work and our restoration push at the end we achieved the Imperial Potentate’s I AM R U Challenge! We also got Honorable mention for the Dromedary awards.

The most important thing in July is the gun raffle on July 28th. WE NEED TO SELL TICKETS. As a reminder the top 3 ticket sellers earn great prizes. The prizes are: a week vacation in Florida for first, a three night stay in Reno for second, and a $500 gift card for third. So sell tickets for yourself and your unit, club or committee. Remember your group gets to keep $5. We are behind last year’s number so we need everyone to do the best they can in this final push. Also, plan on coming out that day for the big drawing party.

So, now we are to August. Lot’s going on in August. We have the joint Moolah/Ainad pinewood derby party August 4th. We have the First Ladies fundraiser August 11th and continue to have a need for Auction items. Whatever you can get us would be greatly appreciated. Then CSSA hits us in Branson and we have lots of exciting things to do for you. Shortly after that the Mizzou Game bus trip will be heading to Tiger Shrine Club on September 8th so make sure you reserve your spot quickly as spots for this trip are limited.

Review every page of this Camels’ Tales for all the information on the various events. It is very important to get your RSVP’s in TIMELY for the various events.

We are hard at work on gathering information for the ballroom renovation and expect more details to come soon that we can share with all of you. We hope this renovation will boost our rental business while also upgrading the facility for our own use.

I am proud of what we have accomplished this year. Everything seems to be going successfully. And that is only because of all of your participation and hard work. It is exciting times at Moolah and I am proud to be a Shriner! I hope you are too!

Fraternally,

Kyle McEvoyIllustrious Potentate 2018

TemptationBy: David Dieckhaus, PP

In the Lord’s Prayer it says “Lead us not into Temptation but deliver us from evil.

Is temptation evil? Who orchestrates such an act? Some say temptation comes from Satin himself in a way to show our God his power over us. It is truly a display for God’s love for us as he gives us the choice to make the right decision to follow him or turn away from him. Making the right choice or wrong choice is of our own free will. TEMPTATION (IN THE BIBLE) In the Bible the word temptation primarily de-notes a trial in which man has a free choice of being faithful or unfaithful to God; only secondarily does it signify allurement or seduction to sin.

When you think about it, there isn’t a day that goes by without being tempted. Temptations lie with the food we eat, the people we talk to and the choices we are faced with. It can come in many forms. We are tempted to gossip, to tell a lie, to feel superior to others and judge them or to make choices we know are just not right. But the real question is how do we deal with these temptations? Well, firstly we need to understand the difference between a trial and a temptation. Trials are the external influences that lead us to succumb to temptation.

An example of this is smokers. For those people who try to quit it is often a stressful moment at work or in their social life that leads them to have a cigarette. Those stressful moments are trials. The trial on the outside becomes the temptation on the inside.

People of all ages are faced with trials and temptations.

Although it does not seem like it, young children are faced with temptations as well. They are tempted not to share, to whine or yell or to disobey instructions. Al-though these seem like trivial temptations, they are vital to teaching a child at an early age how to deal with such temptations. Teenagers as you would all know are also tempted and usually the temptation is to succumb to peer pressure and take the easy route out. Adults too face many trials and temptations. Therefore, as you can see trials and temptations can be seen every day in everyone’s lives.

James encouraged Christians by reminding them of the blessings that come through trials of temptation. God uses trials to produce endurance and promises a reward to those who endure. His promise of reward fills the believer with hope and strength to resist.

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God can-not be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.

But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.(James 1:12-15, ESV)

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.1 Corinthians 10:13

Shriners International- In MemoriamGene Bracewell

Imperial Potentate 1984-85 |October 8, 1934-May 8, 2018OFFICE OF THE IMPERIAL POTENTATE - TAMPA

To the Representatives of Shriners International, Potentates of Subordinate Temples and the Nobility of the Order: He walked through life and left his impress there; He still gives on in ways we cannot know. His love of life and living is not lost; His spirit carries on in those he loved and reaches out to touch humanity. A heritage continuing through the years.

Gene Bracewell who served as Imperial Potentate of Shriners of North America (now know as Shriners International) during the 1984-85 Imperial Year, passed away on Tuesday morning, May 8, 2018 at 83 years of age. He was surrounded by his loving family as he passed peacefully to eternal life with his Lord.

Born in Atlanta to Vernon and Ethel Bracewell, Imperial Sir Bracewell married Gloria Katharyn Hildebrand June 3, 1956. They would of been married 62 years on June 3, 2018. Imperial Sir Bracewell retired as president of the National Chemical Division of National Services Industries, a Fortune 300 company, in January 2000. He had been associated with the compa-ny for 42 years. Imperial Sir Bracewell majored in chemistry and biology at the University of Georgia and Emory University, and received an honorary doctorate of humane letters from Southern College in Memphis, Tennessee.

In 1960, Imperial Sir Bracewell became a Mason and Shriner and found a passion for volunteer work and leadership. He was initiated as a member of Yaarab Shriners in Atlanta in December 1960 and in 1973 he was the youngest man ever elected Potentate. He also served his temple as Preseident of the Yaarab Shrine Band, Treasurer and Captain of the Guard, and was a member of the International Cabiri and Jester Court 91. In addition, he was an Associate Member of Shaddai Shriners in Panama City, Florida.

Imperial Sir Bracewell went on to become Imperial Potentate of Shriners International and hosted its annaul Imperial Session in Atlanta in 1985. He was named “Shriner of the Decade” in 1990 for his numerous contributions to the Shriners fraternity and Shriners Hospitals for Children over the years.

Imperial Sir Bracewell also served Shriners International as Member, Special Purpose Funds Committee; Chairman, Imperial Public Relations Committee; Member, Salaries, Personnel and Retirement Committee, Chairman, Buildings and Equipment Committee; Emeritus Representatives, Iowa Corporation, 1985; and Imperial Treasurer, 1997-2002.

Throughout his career, Imperial Sir Bracewell excelled in becoming the youngest leader to reach so many high offices of honor. However, he found his greatest fulfillment in serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Shriners Hospitals for Children from 1986-1996, and as Treasurer of Shriners Hospitals for Children from 1997-2012. During this time, he led the organization through a major rebuilding of its system of 22 hospitals, and helped establish Shriners Hospitals for Children as one of America’s most revered and broadly supported philanthrophies.

Imperial Sir Bracewell also served Shriners Hospitals for Children as Member, Invesement Committee; Chairman, Donor Relations Committee; Member, East- West Shrine Game; Member, Strategic Planning Committee; Hospital Liaison. In 1997, he was named Chairman Emeritus, Board of Trustees.

Imperial Sir Bracewell was a member of the Charity Daylight Lodge No. 754; York Rite-Chapter 56, Commandery No. 27; and Scottish Rite Valley of Atlanta, Orient of Georgia, He was also an Honorary Member of the Supreme Council, Order of DeMolay 33rd Degree; and Past Sovereign, Red Cross of Constantine, Atlanta, St. Ambrose Conclave.

Imperial Sir Bracewell was awarded the 33rd Degree of Scottish Rite Masons, an honor that cannot be sought or applied for but only given in recognition of exemplary lead-ership and service to the tenants of Masonry. He also received the Imperial Potentate’s Award of Merit in 2013, the highest honor the fraternity can bestow upon a Shriner.

Imperial Bracewell is survived by his wife, Katharyn, his daughter, Vicky Carroll, her husband, Julian, and their son, Jared and daughter, Katie; his son Richard Bracewell, his wife, Jennifer, and their daughter Roma; and his daughter Kathy Bracewell, all of Atlanta.

He is also survived by his brother, Jim Bracewell, and his wife, Nancy (of Atlanta), and their sons and Gene’s nephews, Ron Bracewell, and his wife Jamie, and Michael Bracewell, and his wife, Callie, and their children, Griffen, Caroline, Alexandria and Ellie.

He survived by his brother-in-law, Tommy Hildebrand (deceased wife Barbara), of Senoia, Georgia, and their son, Don, and his wife, Jean, along with their children. A number of additional relatives also survive him.

It is eternity now. I am in the midst of it. It is about me in the sunshine; I am in it, as the butterfly in the light laden air. Nothing has to come; it is now. Now is eternity; now is the immortal life.

His many friends of Shriners International join with the Imperial Potentate in expressing sincere condolences to his loved ones at his parting.

There was a friend whose heart was good. He walked with men and understood. He was a voice that spoke to cheer, And felt like music on the ear. He was a smile men loved to see; He was a hand that asked no fee For his friendliness or kindness done. And now that he has journeyed on, His is a fame that never ends - He leaves behind uncounted friends. ES SELAMU ALEIKUM

The Ambassadors started the summer in grand style with a wonderful Ladies Spring Party. We honored all the ladies. They do so much in sup-port of all the Shrine Activities, it was an honor well deserved. Our luncheon was a great suc-cess and a special thanks to the past potentates and divan members for their attendance.

PLEASE NOTE: The Ambassadors will be dark in July and August.

The next Ambassador lunch will be on Friday, September 14 in the Oasis Room. At all of our regular meetings we will continue to have our popular open bar and our three drawings: the 50/50, free dinner and jackpot. You may be a winner but you won’t have a chance if you do not attend. Ambassadors, you are missing a great time, if you do not attend our meetings. .

Please watch the Camels’ Tales for information about all of the Moolah activities. Information about all Ambassador Events will come to you through the Camels’ Tales, email, or word of mouth. With May and June behind us, having celebrated our Ladies with a Happy Mothers Day, enjoyed having floated in The Ainad Circus Parade, we ease into July with great hopes for Peace in the World.

July 14th thru 19th the Chanters travel to Dayto-na Beach, Florida to defend their TITLES. That’s right, I said, for the hard of READING, TITLES PLURAL!!! Not being complacent champions, having won every event in which they participated last year, our quartet and chorus have, by contin-ual extensive rehearsals, further improved their sound to the point of there being little doubt as their expectant victory over all foolish and daring enough to compete against them.

We hope you’ll come around to hear us sing the National Anthem at the Stated Meetings to be held this coming August, October and December. We feel the spirit of patriotism at each and every per-formance. We hope we can spur in you the same feelings. It’s a Great song for a Great country.

With income Tax behind us, May flowers in full bloom,June’s the month for weddings, Good Luck to Bride and Groom.

That pretty well sums up the period covered by this article...Except for a few events to come.

Bob Mathewson is a great poet and he wrote this one about my recent car wash experience. You have to laugh at yourself sometimes.

Dale's DilemmaDale went to the car wash the other day.He goes there because it's free, he doesn't have to pay. He drove into to the entrance in his big red truck, That's when he realized his window was stuck. He push and pulled the button but the window did not move as his vehicle started down through the tube.He first got sprayed with soapy bubbles, but that was just the beginning of his troubles. Next came the water that soaked him to the core, and got all over his seat and floor. Then came the brushes, he got slapped in the face. He was starting to wish he was in another place. He was deep in water up to his can, about that time the rinse cycle began. In through the window the water came fast, right in his face he took the blast. His glasses were foggy and full of steam, as he endured the powerful stream. He could see the blow dryer through the mist. By the time he reached it, he was pissed. After all was said and done, Dale wasn't having very much fun. For when he arrived home in a bad state of mind, He pushed the button and the window worked fine. Author Bob Mathenson

Director: Rick Gwydir 314-504-1091Drum Major: Dave Glenn 314-560-4431 By Jim Hubeli Going back to the Spring Ceremonial on May 5 that honored Jim McEvoy, the father of Potentate Kyle McEvoy. Jim also has two other sons at Moolah, Shawn and Patrick McEvoy. Jim McEvoy has been at Moolah over 50 years and was the Captain and President of the Motor Patrol, is an Ambassador and active for the Shriners Hospital. It was a full day at Moolah with the trip to the hospital, the ceremonial, the watch party for the Kentucky Derby and the Pub Crawl and Mexico party. For the Pub Crawl theme, the Drum Corps was given the country of Greece. Our President, Dave Glenn, put together a Greek meal con-sisting of Dolmathakia ( meatloaf stuffed grape leaves ) and Greek Baklava ( sweet pastry ). We also had the Greek national drink, Ouzo which is strong wine with anise. Rich Steed and Jim Hubeli helped serve the big crowds that came through to eat and have their cards signed. We don't know what they received for the signed cards. Anyway, all the food was gone pronto. We are sorry to report the passing of Juanita Hewitt on May 13. Juanita had been a mainstay at Moolah for many years. She served with Chief Aide John for 17 years and was helpful to everyone. Our sincere sympathies are extended to John and sons Kevin and Bruce and the rest of the family. We are also sorry to report the passing of Allen Jants on May 21. Al became a Shriner in 1975 and joined the Drum Corps the same year. He was an excellent drummer and marched for many years. He was also in the Legion of Honor, was President of TCAA and President of the Drum Corps in 1987. Al was a very good bowler and was Chairman and President of the Athletic Com-mittee. Our sincere sympathies are extended to daughters Rosalie and Jacqueline and the rest of the family. A Drum Corps funeral service was held on May 29 directed by Jay Traxel and the Drum Corps Brass. Steve Pieper PP played taps.

THE REAL McCOY……….“NOT”THE REAL McEVOY………YES

Jim and Pat McEvoy raised 3 sons, which as it turns out was quite a handful……for Pat, his wife of 55 years.

This is a biography of Jim McEvoy. Both Pat and Jim were born and raised in Aurora, Il., they attend-ed the same High School. Jim was on the football and rifle teams and is of Scotch-Irish heritage.

Their sons: Shawn, Patrick and Kyle are all Shriners and of course Kyle is the sitting Potentate. There are 7 grandchildren.

Jim is a Navy veteran, owned a chemical compa-ny for 28 years and has been retired for 18 years. He became a Shriner in 1966. His passion is scuba diving. He has logged 187 dives in 18 years of diving with family and friends. One of Jim’s favorite sayings is; “I dive, she shops.” (She being Pat, of course).

Jim has been very active in the Motor Patrol. He was President for one year, Lt. for 10 years and Capt. for 8 years. He has driven in 430 Parades, 380 Grand Entries at the Circus and attended Central States for 33 years, winning 2 first place Harley skill trophies.

When asked how many Harley’s he has had over the years, he replied: “10. And I really miss driv-ing one. My favorite was an 87 two tone Harley.” Jim said he gave up the Harley when he was able to walk away from a very serious accident, thankful to be alive.

Jim has been honored as the Shriner of the month, a Ceremonial named in his honor, Received 5, yes 5, Ruby’s for bringing in new Shriners. (5 new members for each Ruby). He is a lifetime member of the Ambassadors and Motor Patrol.

STORIES FROM THE THREE McEVOY SONSGrowing up we had a cabin in St. Genevieve and spent many weekends clearing brush and trees. Over the years the pile of dead brush and trees grew to about 20’ wide and 15’ high. One weekend my dad and I went to the cabin and he decided to get rid of the pile and threw a match on it. Well, it exploded like a bomb. You could see the fire and smoke for miles. All we had was a garden hose. No help. Soon we heard the fire engine sirens screaming toward our cabin to put out our fire. My dad admonished me: “DON’T TELL YOUR MOTHER” (Shawn McEvoy)

One weekend a bunch of Motor Patrol guys and sons went to another members place (Joe Gar-ren) in the country. It seemed everyone brought all the guns and amo they had. There was almost as many cigars, beers and Jack as there were bullets. We spent all afternoon shooting, building targets, throwing down cold ones and having a great party. Then Jim Smith made “Geezer shots.” Big mistake. My father and Jim Smith decided to stay up all night and watch the sunrise. They sat by the campfire (as best they could sit up). They were both looking at the sky, waiting for the sun. The problem was they both were looking in the wrong direction. The sun was rising behind them and they could not see it. That was a long ride home for my father. When we pulled into the driveway he admonished me: “ DON’T TELL YOUR MOTHER”. (Patrick McEvoy)

So when I was about 11 years old my dad was cleaning our pool. He opened the skimmer lid, and there was a frog in it. I asked him: “Dad what is that?” He said: “ Son that is toad.” (And explained what to do with it.) It was a “Dinger” of a story, that I can’t finish here. See me or Dad for details. At the end of Dad’s story he said:” NEV-ER MIND AND DON’T TELL YOUR MOTHER.” (Kyle McEvoy)

So, who is afraid of who? When asked for the highlight of his life Jim imme-diately responded: “A loving and supporting wife for 55 years, our three sons, our grandchildren and the Shrine”.

Now that the weather is hot, Friday evenings are a great time to come inside and dance in the air conditioning. How about joining us at the Oasis for music, dancing, friendship and fun?

During the months of July and August, we have eight Friday night dances to choose from. Please note that we do not have a dance on Aug 31 due to Rollin on the River here in Saint Louis. Six dances are DJ nights. The other two nights are band nights. The two bands below are very different; they have their own style; you will love them both.

On July 20, Moolah Shrine Swing Dance is proud to present Crossfire back to the Oasis. Crossfire plays a wide variety of music: pop, classic rock, oldies, ballads and country.

On August 24, Moolah Shrine Swing Dance is proud to present Backstreet Cruisers. This is a great band that plays good old rock and roll from the 50's and 60's. We provide a cash bar and sell pizza by the slice at each of our dances. You are welcome to bring your own snacks. No outside drinks are allowed.

Admission is $6 on DJ nights. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Basic dance lessons start at 7 pm. The DJ plays from 7 pm to 11pm.

Admission is $10 on band nights. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Band plays from 7 to 11 pm. No dance lessons are provided on band nights.

If you are looking for a place to have a party with music, a dance floor and a cash bar, the Friday night Swing Dance Club is the place to be. Reserve a spot for 20 or more guests and we will provide a cake, plates and reserved tables for your celebration. Regular admission fees apply. Just give us advance notice in order for us to provide a cake.

Plan a date night and join us for a fun filled evening. Invite your friends, too. There is plenty of room to dance on our 2,600 square foot dance floor.

As the weather heats up things are staying fun and cool at the Tiger Shrine Club. At this writing we don’t have any weekend events planned but come to the meeting as things can always change.

Coming up in September we are planning to host Moolah Temple as they take a trip to a MIZZOU home game. They will be here on September 8 for the home game against Wyoming. The game has a 6pm kickoff and the busses will be stopping by the club before the game for a meal. We will need help with this event and it is a great chance to meet some of the other nobles of Moolah and their ladies.

The next big event we have on the calendar is our golf tournament on October 13, 2018 at L A Nickell Golf Course, located across the street from the club. We are looking for teams and hole sponsors. Please plan to participate and help make this event a success.

See your Tiger Tales Newsletter for all the infor-mation on events at the club. The July meeting will be on 7/30/18 and the August meeting will be on 8/27/18. Folks start showing up around 5:30pm. Come out and enjoy the club and have a good meal and some cool drinks.

The Tiger Shrine club is located at 2315 N Stadi-um Blvd, Columbia, MO 65202.

President Danny Phillips 270-872-5464

I would like to thank ECMO for the great time we had during the Hillbilly degree at your club. It was an excellent meal (that hog was a great idea), as well as great comradery. Word on the street is that there were 53 new Hillbillies brought into Clan 140 that day. I’m sure they will all remem-ber that day, or at least one part of it.

We recently had a Fill the Fez event in Poplar Bluff. We were able to collect $2015 to send directly to the hospital. Events like this not only get us out in the public, but we also get to hear stories of how Shriners Hospitals have had an influence in peoples lives. It’s nice to hear people that have received care from one of the Shriners Hospitals and hear how thankful they are in person. We will be having another Fill the Fez on the 31st of August.

TRSC will be hosting our 5th annual Poker Run on July 7th in Doniphan Missouri. This event takes place on the beautiful Current River and it is a lot of fun. Anyone with questions can contact me and I will answer any questions (concerning the Poker Run) that you may have.

TRSC will also be hosting our Rodeo on Sep-tember 7th and 8th at Ray Clinton Park in Poplar Bluff Missouri. I hope to see some familiar faces, even if they happen to have a fly on their nose. McDougal and Jitter Bug came last year and were a great addition to our clowns and our Ro-deo. We appreciate all the help we can get during the Rodeo, it’s a big event for us. The Three Rivers Shrine Club is located at 3102 Kennedy Lane, Poplar Bluff MO 63901.
