July Mr Steggalls Message On 5th June we welcomed our Governors into school for a half day visit round the classrooms. The Governors visited each classroom and observed lots of hard work and interesting lessons across the curriculum. They were impressed with the high level of independence observed in our EYFS classes. I am very pleased to welcome Mrs Nina Ralston onto our Governing Body. The role of Parent Governor is a voluntary role and I would like to thank her for committing her time and offering her skills to help our school. Last week it was wonderful to hear the children perform during our Summer term concert. It was a memorable evening in our new hall and I would like to thank Miss Hurrell, Mr Watts and all of the staff who have worked so hard with the children. If your child does not currently play an instrument and would like to learn at school, please look out for more information over the next few weeks, ready for the new academic year. Although the Balfour Beatty work is now complete, further work is required in the classrooms as teaching walls need to be installed. We look forward to moving Year 1 to Year 6 children into the new building in September. We will be holding an opening event on 4th October. More details will follow next term. There are some photos of the new build on the front of our school web- site. Parents will be invited to tour the school in the Autumn term. Our PA continue to raise much needed funds for our school. Whilst we now have a beautiful new building, we are reliant upon their funding . The PA are helping us furnish the new library and supporting us with teaching walls. It would be great if we could supply the children with new chairs and tables over the next few years. Parents can help in many ways, including sponsorship and participating in some of the PA organised events we have throughout the year. We have a busy few weeks ahead before we break up for the summer. Please do check the diary dates below for the upcoming activities. Finally, please can I remind all parents that we operate a No Nuts Policy in school. Please check all food that your child brings into school to ensure there is no nut content. A good reminder ahead of school holidays when children will be enjoying activities outside of school.

New Schools Join the Learning Trust for Ex-

cellence

As you are aware, our school is part of the Learning Trust for Excellence (LTE), a collaboration of 7 local schools who work together, share good practice and develop opportunities for our staff and children. Following the success of the Trust and the significant impact it has had on improving teaching and learning in our schools, it will be expanding to work with more schools in our community. The LTE is delighted to announce that the following local schools will be joining the Trust this summer: Court Farm Primary The Deanery Church of England Primary Maney Hill Primary Wylde Green Primary The schools will engage in all the collaborative opportunities and activities for a year in the first instance. All the schools have worked together previously as part of the wider group of Sutton Coldfield primaries so we are very much looking forward to the exciting opportunities this expansion will bring, welcoming new colleagues and learning from each other. For further details please see the letter on our

Online Safety—Reminder It is important that our children have responsible online role models, as social media may become more prevalent in their lives as they get older. The use of social media by parents should be done in a mindful and respectable way, setting a good example to children. Please only allow children access to social media, online apps and content that is appropriate for their age. e.g. the minimum age for Whatsapp is 16. When using social media please be mindful of how comments may be perceived by others and consider if they have the potential to have a negative impact on school staff and other families in our school community. Our staff are committed, dedicated profes-sionals who deserve to be treated with re-spect. If you have a concern or complaint you should raise it directly with the school, in line with our complaints procedure which can be found on our website or by request from the school office. Comments, concerns or complaints posted on social media cannot be directly addressed by the school.

Girls Netball

A MASSIVE well done to all the netballers who have played throughout the netball season this year. You have represented Moor Hall brilliantly and we couldn't be more proud of you. More photos can be found on the school blog: http://moorhall.blogspot.com/2019/06/year-6-netball-presentation-evening.html

No Idling Please consider the quality of the air our children are breathing on the way to school and ensure that when you are parked, your car engine is switched off. If you are able, please consider walking to school or parking a little way from school and walking the rest of the way. This is not only a good way to improve the air quality around school but excellent exercise and a great time to chat together.

Reminder re: Sickness

Please be reminded that in the case of sickness, your child should not return to school for at least 24 hours after last being sick. This is important to ensure that your child is well enough to be in school and that any sickness bugs are not brought into school. Thank you for your co-operation.

Year 5 extremely enjoyed their visit to the Black Country Museum this term/week. They were history detectives and investigated the lives of the following Victorian children: Rose Bradley, Samuel Webb and Lillian Hodgkiss. Year 5 had lots of fun exploring a Victorian mine and experiencing a school lesson - they luckily avoided the cane!

Black Country Museum

Well done to parents and chil-dren who took part in the Great Midlands Fun Run on Sunday 2nd June. If your child has taken part in any charity events outside of school and you would like to share their news in the school newsletter, we would love to hear. Please email: [email protected]

Sports Update

Don’t forget, the PA School Ball is on 28th June. This will be a great evening to raise funds for the school’s new library. Then, lets keep our fingers crossed for the sunshine for our Summer Carnival on 6th July from 12pm to 3pm. Thank you to everyone involved in organising and supporting all the PA events throughout the year. The funds raised by the PA are so important to our school. We hope you and your children enjoy all the fun events.

EYFS Inter-house Field/Strike Competition.

Our youngest children at school took part in their

first inter-house competition before half-term.

We introduce these competitions in our Reception

class and they form part of our Sports Curriculum throughout the

school. The competitions are fun and inclusive but do introduce an

element of team competition. The children compete in their house

groups and the results for this competition are:

1st Place—Cadbury

2nd Place—Ennis

3rd Place—Armstrong

4th Place—Bolt

On Wednesday 12th June, children put on a spectacular performance in the spring music concert. It was a privilege to witness such talent and to ob-serve the musician's progress from last year as well as since the Christmas concert. Thank you to everyone who attended and hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

Community Tea

Year 6 did us proud on Thursday 20th June when they hosted our annual Community Tea as a thank you to invited guests who have supported the school this year. They prepared a delicious afternoon tea and performed with confidence to an audience, including the Mayor or Royal Sutton Coldfield. Photos will be on our website shortly.
