Road to International Fame: Early Steps
• In 1899 Frank became an evangelistic singer for Charles Reign Scoville, a famous evangelist. From Florida to Nova Scotia Frank sang in 180 evangelistic campaigns over 19 years.

Internationally-Acclaimed Composer• Frank was internationally known as a
composer of hymns, gospel, ballads,popular songs, patriotic tunes, and dancesongs (foxtrots, one-steps, and waltzes).
• His first “successful” hymn, We Shall Gather‘Round the Throne, was published in 1898.
• In the early years of the 20th century, Frankfounded his own music publishing companyin Indianapolis and New York. He publishedhundreds of songs, many of which were hisown compositions.
• His most famous hymn, It Pays to ServeJesus (1909), is still performed today. Healso wrote nostalgic songs about Indiana,including My Indiana Home (1917) and We’reFrom Indiana (1928). He collected his gospelworks in Selected Sacred Songs(Jacksonville, Fla.: Frank C. Huston, 1937)

• On Jan. 14, 1934, Frank Hustonbecame pastor of MooresvilleChristian Church (Disciples ofChrist) on the southeast cornerof West Harrison and SouthJefferson Streets, a post he heldthrough 1937.
• His salary was $11.75/week.“The ‘normal’ salary was$10/week, but because BrotherHuston lived in Knightstown anddrove to Mooresville for choirpractice on Thursday nights andagain on Sundays for services,he was allowed an extra $1.75per week.”

• In 1935 Frank Huston wroteMooresville, a nostalgic songpraising its hometown values.
• Although no published versionappears to exist, his sistercopied his original handwrittenmusical score and donated it tothe Library, a facsimile of whichhas faded with time. TheMooresville Times twicepublished Frank’s lyrics (June11, 1936 & June 24, 1937), eachtime slightly altering the wordsfrom the original.
